And in the hot air proper, of course, because we love the hot air popper, and you want to get ready to watch some good movies, these, this is a great place to start. You know, sometimes people say Where should I start my plant based journey and pretty much I always say you need to watch a few movies to get inspired. Because if you can understand where your food is coming from, that you're normally eating, what it's causing what type of diseases or

Jarrod:

effects it has on your body.

Anita:

Right and what what it's causing in your life, if you can understand those things, and you can then see some testimonials to back that up of real people who've done this. And you can then see the research to back it up. So now it's not just somebody telling you, like we tell all the time, hey, this has totally changed our lives and was totally change the lives of our clients. But you can also go online and see a ton of different testimonials. testimonials are great and all but when they're backed by research, now you got something like now you have something and now you're

Jarrod:

cooking with fire.

Anita:

And and we're big on research because we're both in the medical and nursing profession by trade. And so, you know, we've gone on to study more about whole food plant based living, just to deepen our knowledge and understanding because our love of it so much, we love it so much. And so we just want to let you know that one of the best ways to kick off or to be encouraged if you've just walked this ride for a long time. And you haven't seen these, maybe just

Jarrod:

some of these movies, we've watched on multiple occasions,

Anita:

we go back and watch them again. And again, the kids like some of them, some of them aren't as appropriate for especially younger children. So we recommend previewing at your own discretion, you would show any of these. And we'll give special insight into which ones you want to take extra care with before you would show it to your children, or your grandchildren or nieces and nephews that kind of thing. So to kick it all off, we're gonna start with number one, which is just the basic cream of the crop, the one that kind of started at all, which is Forks Over Knives.

Jarrod:

Right? Right, that came out back in 2011. So it's been about 10 years and that was been that long it has been It was one of the first ones might have been the first one that we actually saw.

Anita:

It is the first one that we saw into this. It is the first one that we saw and we were already doing research and figuring this stuff out on our end

Jarrod:

and we were already started starting to try to do better. You know, we talked about in our story where we were buying organic milk or maybe organic slice meats and and cutting back on the meats and already trying to make big changes when

Anita:

we started making a lot of the shifts to to adding a lot more fruits and vegetables and things like that. And we were seeing the research because I was going through a lot of difficult times with my with just my wife with my help and it was keeping me from doing the things I needed to do on a daily basis. I mean, I'm talking about just the basics like surviving Yeah, like being able to wash your hair without crying because your elbows and shoulders hurt so bad or being able to go through your day without wanting to just keel over into bed because you're so exhausted, or you can't travel up one flight of stairs to take your children into bed at night, those things are heartbreaking. And we don't want that for you, that doesn't have to be your story, because we've gone through it. So you can take what we've learned, and what we've learned from school and our experiences, and not have to go through that. But this is a great place to just get yourself excited and motivated and ready to start this journey. And again, if you've been, if you've been on the journey for a while, it's a great place to come back to again and again, because sometimes you forget the facts. There's so many different facts presented. Do you think I forgot about that? You

Jarrod:

know, john, did you get into the daily routine of Okay, these are the habits that I'm doing now. And seeing some of these things, you go back, and you may remember that aha moment where you you get that renewed? Like vigor or whatever. It's like, yes. Okay, I remember what got me started doing this in the first place. But you'll get reminded of some things where you think, Oh, yeah, I forgot about that. And maybe rebalanced some things. So it makes a great kind of recentering entering Yeah. But like you were saying, we were already trying to do better. But when we saw this, it was just such a huge shift, where we said, This just makes so much sense. I had we known this earlier, we would have gone all in and done it and had tremendous changes much faster. And

Anita:

then when we did we went and dug into the research on our own and started figuring out what would work for the issues we were dealing with and, and then just trial and error trying to figure out how do we do it? Because then you're left with Okay, I can't have this. I need more of this. How do I do that? How do I do that in a way that's going to work for my life for the long haul. And as a busy women, it's got to be easy, or we're not going to do it.

Jarrod:

And it can't be just another diet because you're not going to do that.

Anita:

No, it's not math dieting has got to go Dinah math has no boys here. With that kind of stuff. You can't be doing calorie counts and points and all this stuff. It just it makes you want to hurt somebody or you'll get hangry or something, something worse, I don't know. It's just not a good situation. It's not something that's livable for long term. So if you want to set your self up for long term success, this is a great place to go. All right, even if you just need encouragement to keep on going until you figure it all out or get in a place that you know the steps to take. So number one is Forks Over Knives. And we love this movie. We really really liked it. It's one of the more mild movies. And you know, it'll stir you up and you'll get to the end. And God I can't believe Jarrod name. The Jarrod and Anita said this was one of the most mild movies. But it is of the list. Really. It's probably one of the ones that's the safest to watch with younger children as well. I'm not doing

Jarrod:

a good idea to pre watch it just to make sure it's appropriate for your children.

Anita:

Yeah, but the major storyline in the film just goes around the personal journeys of Dr. T. Colin Campbell. He's a nutritional science scientist from Cornell University and then Dr. Caldwell Esselstyn, who's a formal former surgeon. And you know, he's a world renowned doctor at Cleveland Clinic and the heat, they talk about their own experiences. You know, they had two separate journeys, and they both reach the same conclusions. And they talked about how did they reach those conclusions with Dr. Campbell, it's more of his research backed and Dr. m. Dr. Esselstyn, it was patients he was seeing, I mean, it was research also, but just the patients and the transformations that he was seeing, you know, he was taking cardiac patients that were given, basically,

Jarrod:

six months to live. They were they were so sick, they couldn't even undergo surgery. So they were basically just told the patients were told, just go home and wait to die.

Anita:

That's awful. I mean, it breaks my heart. So there are people that are given diagnosis like this. And it really just doesn't have to be many, many times. I'm not saying every time but many times there is something that you or your loved one can do about it. other diseases that people have typically overcome with us, like type two diabetes, even several forms of cancer are addressed in this movie. It's a wonderful movie and we highly recommend it. Now on to number two, which is what the help now we say it's the second one in line but I'll have to tell you, I think we did watch it second of all the

Jarrod:

I think we watched it pretty quickly after we found Forks Over Knives.

Anita:

This made me lit my fire and I'm talking it lit me up like I was so upset after I watch this. You walk away and you're going I have been lied to why have I been lied to and why have I believe these things I've been told and why have I not checked this out before? This? Really I would have to say is that a don't miss and honestly, it might be My personal favorite, I absolutely love this. Maybe it follows a filmmaker. I think his name's kipping Gerson. And it follows his journey of uncovering the impacts of the highly processed industrial animal foods, and how it affects our personal health, how it affects the greater community also talks about how just different things are involved, like pharmaceutical companies and health organizations that we are supposed to be looking out for our help, and come to find out may not be the case. So definitely you want to inform yourself, because you're when you're looking at these organizations, for recommendations for your diabetes or for your heart, and the big world organizations, you might just want to look into what are they really teaching? And where's that coming from? And why are they pushing what they are and saying that it's, quote, healthy. And so this is a great movie, if you want to be informed,

Jarrod:

I would say with the larger organizations, a small dose of skepticism may be healthy. Just look into it. See what the recommendations are? What is the science behind it? Is it something that you should be following? So we don't want to give too much away. You'll see it all in the movie. And I think you'll come out of the other sides. And oh, my goodness, Jarrod and Anita, they're all right. And I feel like I've been lied to.

Anita:

Yeah, you definitely need to see these movies. Okay. Now, number three. If you're into bodybuilding or sports, or you're thinking you got to have a protein and you don't think you can get it from plants, you need to watch Game Changers dangers, this movie is incredible. Now, there are some explicative that I remember. Yeah,

Jarrod:

there were a few occasions where they were explicit is but also there are a couple scenes, extended scenes of 510 minutes where it was more adult type material, right? Exactly. Think of men high performance thinking Men's Health. So there were a few subjects there where you might want to, again, pre watch and make sure it's appropriate for any children, maybe even teens in your house.

Anita:

Absolutely. But it is incredible. I mean, you think about people just think, Oh, well, I'm an athlete, and I need my protein. So there's no way I can do whole food plant based. And honestly, I'm not gonna give too much away. But I'll just tell you, that is not true. That is not true at all. I mean, you've got to think about where do the strongest animals in the world, you know, weird in many of them get their protein. They're plain eaters, okay, they're plant eaters. So if they're eating plants, and that can be that strong. You can also eat plants and be that strong. And it's really interesting at follow it, they talk to different athletes.

Jarrod:

Well, the gentleman that actually did the movie was an MMA athlete got injured, it was going to be out of commission, I believe it was for a couple months while he was healing. So I thought, well, let me take some time and do some research and see what what can I do to help speed that healing. And that led to him discovering some of these truths, and then creating a movie based upon that. And it it's just completely different than what you think. Right? Because again, we think, to be strong, I must have protein, the only source of protein is from animals. And his conclusion is different.

Anita:

And I say to you, not being like a competitive athlete or anything, I'm not a competitive athlete, right. But I still really love the movie. So even if you're not into competing and athletics or bodybuilding or anything like that, I still recommend that you check it out. It was really an interesting movie. Number four, is eating you alive. This movie is fantastic, because it highlights more of the testimonials of different people, it follows their lives, it gives their story. And it's just it's heartbreaking to think of again, how many of us have been told where you just have this disease and you're just going to have it for the rest of your life. And that's just the way it is, you know, you're getting older. These are the diseases of old age and then your genetics, you know, you've got it gene was there's nothing you can do about it. It's the type you can't do anything about you might hear that that's typical. But again, the truth is, you have a lot more power than what you've been led to believe. And this is a fantastic movie to watch if you like and enjoy testimonials. And then number Did you have anything else you

Jarrod:

want? Well, not as much on that one. That one had a lot of testimonials the previous three recommendations they do have what I enjoy about all those movies, there are a lot of doctors that talk about the science of some of this stuff from the medical stamp.

Anita:

I mean they know the science

Jarrod:

to Super detail so it's it's very approachable. I'm

Anita:

Jared Jared has a degree in cellular and molecular biology on top of his degree as a physician assistant. I just gotta say this out there so they can understand where you're coming from.

Jarrod:

I enjoyed the why so they don't go into that level of detail, but they do come at it from the medical staff. endpoints. So again, you know that this is backed by science, that this isn't just a lot of anecdotal information. That's why. And so they have the different doctors give different scenes throughout those movies, so that you feel and it's multiple doctors from multiple specialties, right? So it's information that you can trust. It's not just one person with an agenda. It's multiple doctors that are seeing this, they're coming to these conclusion. They're saying, wait, have we gotten this wrong? Yeah, for the longest time in the medical community, it's just been an attitude of, it didn't really matter what you eat. But they're realizing it really does and have realized a lot of them for a long time. It's just not rising to the surface, but it is now. It's more of a grassroots type movement. But it's becoming known. And that's what makes us so passionate about doing this is because we want you to know, this is like I say, you don't know what you don't know. But now you do.

Anita:

Now you do. And that's the important thing. And then you just go from there, you build on it day to day. Now I know this. So I'm going to change this, I'm going to shift this now I know this. And one thing and another thing and another thing and your life looks completely different 365 days from now, but

Jarrod:

I would say a month from now, research it yourself. Don't just listen to us. Exactly. Go and research it. Get on the internet, get into trusted resources, listen to other health care professionals, again, other resources and listen to them.

Anita:

It's just shocking how long it's been out how long this information has been out there, the research part of it, and it's just been buried. I mean, it's unbelievable to me. Okay, now, the fifth movie is called hope, HRP. And it is available I believe it's free still on YouTube, if I'm not mistaken. And that's a good point about all of these movies, I wanted to let you all know since we're at the end, that all these movies you can find a lot of them for free if you search online, or if you have amazon prime, they'll be available on there. A lot of them Netflix, sometimes Vimeo has them for free. And sometimes I'm trying to think what else Netflix Netflix prime is what I was gonna say to any of the movie platforms look them up. And sometimes you can just buy them direct like they think you can buy Forks Over Knives from for Sephora.

Jarrod:

Yeah, some of you might rent for a couple dollars,

Anita:

right? So it's not expensive, totally worth it, and a lot of them are free. But going back to the fifth choice, hope this again not one we'd recommend just sitting down and watching with children but I think everyone needs to see this because you need to understand where your food is coming from and how things are done. And so it shows behind the scenes of how things are done, how your food is raised and how it gets to your plate and it was so eye opening for me and it was a bit heart wrenching because I'm thinking why did we not know this? Why did we never ask how is this brought to my plate what happens to it before it lands on my plate? And we didn't get into this for animal activism. But if you're not that way you still need to watch this movie. Again adults only I would say but just be a you need to be aware it's just something you need to know that

Jarrod:

speaks to the quality of the food after one if you're looking at it just from a health standpoint, you want to know what the quality of what it is you're putting in your body exactly now for us it was more of a health drive that made us go plant based but as we did this and we stopped seeing animal as food we did become more sensitive and then we see these movies now and an affects us more than it did a few years ago. Right? It is heartbreaking.

Anita:

It is it absolutely is. So you really do need to know these things. And these are the top five now I will say I have to throw another one in here because when we went to you know Jared is certified in lifestyle medicine. And so we went to the lifestyle medicine conference a couple of years back and they were showing the world premiere of Code Blue and you may be able to find this now I think it's starting to come out to the general public and

Jarrod:

they were doing public demonstrations where it was

Anita:

like a group getting together exactly

Jarrod:

like what we did with the conference there but it's now you may be able to find it just for like individual rent on

Anita:

if you can find that Code Blue is another one that's very good. And it follows Dr. Stan sick Dr. Stan sick and she had Ms. She'd been diagnosed with MS. So if you or someone you know or love has MS or an auto immune disease that they're dealing with, it's a great movie. This plant based focused around that as well. So that's another one you might want to keep your eye out for. If it's not out yet where you are easy to find. Just keep an eye out in the future because I have a feeling it's going to be released and more watching. available as we go, Okay, that's it, go get those movies, pop some popcorn and have at it enjoy yourself. And I just I can't wait for you all to understand and see more of why you're making this decision and why this is the right decision and the fact that it's not just based on testimonials. This is a game changer not to, not to unintended. Yeah, not to borrow that from the movie, but it really is a game changer. I mean, our lives have completely changed since we've been in this way,

Jarrod:

thinks that we can accurately express it until you experience it. Once you go through it, then you say, Oh, you're right. I never would have really exactly understood it.

Anita:

When our clients say the same thing. They've developed these changes, and they're saying, why didn't I know this before? Like, why did somebody not tell me this before? It's like, you can't dwell in the past. You just have to be glad you know it now. Now, you know. So we want to say that for you, once you watch these movies, now, you know, and then you can decide, and it's your decision. It's not ours. We're not judgmental. We're not here to tell you, you have to do this. And you have to do that. No, we just want to make sure that you're informed and you know the things that we wish we had known so long before we knew them. Thanks for joining us today. We have loved hanging out with you again, make sure before you go to leave a review, we would love to hear from you and hear what you think about the podcast. It really does help a lot of other people find the podcast because honestly we have so much material out now and we just want more people to know and it really enables people to find the podcast when we have this ratings and reviews. So we would really appreciate it. We thank you for taking your value time to tune in with us to hang out with us again. And we can't wait to see you next time on Power On Plants.
