Jarrod:

It's a distraction. I use example. Now we don't believe in magic. But I use the example of It's like a magic trick where they're they're making something disappear. And so you're watching the left hand all the while the right hands throwing that object behind them. And you don't ever see that.

Anita:

That's a good example. You're

Jarrod:

saying,

Anita:

Hey there, sunshine. And that path, it has to be simple and enjoyable. And it's got to be delicious to you. So are you ready to live your life to the fullest, then you're in the right place, because Living without limits. That's what power on plants is all about. And if you are one of our longtime listeners, you will be happy to be here today because we are celebrating our 100 and 50th episode. And we love having you with us to celebrate this special occasion. I cannot believe how time is flying how in the world have we reached 150 Big 150 crazy but so exciting. That means there are 150 jam packed episodes filled with information to help you get plant based success. Around here, we're all about helping you find the simple, enjoyable and delicious ways to eat the most nutrient dense foods on the planet. Why? Because we know that as a busy woman, you have a lot of things you want to do in life, places you want to go people you want to see, and dreams that you want to see become real and that cannot happen without fueling your body. Well also, we know it's a proven fact that eating more whole plant foods helps to prevent and even reverse the most common diseases that people struggle with today, we don't want you to have to deal with those diseases. You know, Jared and I have lost over 70 pounds together without even trying to lose weight, no calorie counting, no portion control, no going hungry or hungry. And I mean, there's just there's no reason for that you have to find a way to live. That makes this doable with real life. And that is what we're all about. But on this episode,

Jarrod:

we're going to take a little bit of a twist because we're always talking about the things that you should put in your body. But what about the things you should not? You know, this started a couple of days ago, we started thinking because our son our 13 year old son was asking us, Dad, what's a trans fat? And and why did he know that? Well, one because we talk about this stuff, right? He was reading labels he had I forget what the product was, but he was reading the back of it. And it talked about no trans fats. And so I you know, I pulled out the the scientists dad mode and I started graphing out what the trans fat was and what a non trans fat and just, you know, doing the little diagrams, like if you remember from chemistry class and all that it was great, I enjoyed I was totally in my element. But we started thinking, you know, you really need to not buy foods for what's not

Anita:

in them. And I think there's actually not on the back of the label that was on the front of the label because they had labeled no trans fats and you'll see that you'll see no GTE non GMO, right, non GMO, of course, we don't want to eat genetically modified things that is not healthy for our body. So of course, buy things that are non GMO. And all organics should be are supposed to be non GMO. That's one way you can avoid them. And other is by buying things that say non GMO, but don't just buy it because it says the GMOs aren't in there. What is in there? That's what I want you to ask yourself. And in order to determine that what do you need to do sunshine? What do you need to do? You've got to flip it over and read that label specifically don't get caught up in and all worried about how many grams of this and grams that yes, you need to look at that at times. And we will talk about that as we go but one of the main things that you need to look at is the actual ingredients label. How many foreign ingredients are in there that you can't pronounce how much oil is hiding in there? We've talked about this oil is one of the major contributors to inflammation which causes all kinds of havoc in your body. If you're hurting every day, and you're in your 40s, or 50s, that's not normal. We're not supposed to be hurting everyday. But we've been programmed, that's normal. One of the reasons that happens is because we're not giving our body what it needs. But there's a lot of hidden ingredients in there that we just don't think about reading the label, because the front of it looks so good with all that. It doesn't have this, it doesn't have that. You know, maybe it says vegan. Hey, this is vegan. It doesn't have any meat or dairy or

Jarrod:

eggs. Yes, that must be healthy. Right? Right. They must be. But then you see

Anita:

all the vegan junk food. Just because you're vegan doesn't mean you're eating healthy. There is a ton I'm talking that is actually kind of putting it mildly. There's just so many products out there that are vegan that are not healthy, you need to look at that ingredients label does that have added oil, oils cause inflammation and they try to make you think that all they're using is the healthier oils. But oil is going to cause inflammation and it's empty calories, 120 calories per tablespoon, that has minimal nutrients to no nutrients at all because it has been pressed out and you don't see we said this before, but you don't walk by walk by a tree on your daily walk and you look up and go, Oh, look at that beautiful oil tree. See that bottle hanging there? Oil, I just want to pick it and eat it. No. And somehow we've been taught to cover stuff in it. And it's not only what we put in at home. Most everything Saul says pasta sauces, you can't find anything hardly without oil. That's why we love sharing about products that we like we do that a lot inside the membership. You know, what kind of salsa Do you buy? What kind of marinara Do you buy? We get these kind of questions all the time, because it's hard to find one without it. But they are out there, you just have to start doing some digging and looking and choose the better products because you're also voting with your dollars, you know when you own it. So you want to make sure that you're voting on the ones that are the healthiest now sugars?

Jarrod:

Well, you're talking about, well, you're talking about voting with your dollars. The thing about that is is it may seem inconsequential. Well, if I buy this one jar of this and not the other, that's not gonna make that big of a difference. Well, maybe not. But if a bunch of people do it, these companies, they want to sell products, they want to make money, and they're going to create what sells. So you absolutely are voting with your dollars. So even if you're just one person, you're one person, but then the person next to you, they start buying the better stuff. And then soon before you know it 1000s of people are buying the better stuff, those things become available and they become less expensive. So

Anita:

absolutely stick with it. Same thing with think about Okay, so we've talked about salsas and things like that you see a lot of oil, a lot of added sugar and marinara sauces and salsas, pizza sauce, things like that. Then you look at things like dried fruit, surely that's healthy. Okay, so you need to still look at the label tons of oil and tons of sugar or added they just do not need to be there. Another example with us recently, we were visiting a relative and so we were buying things and they did not have the raw cashews that we normally buy at Costco that have absolutely no oil. So we were buying the roasted cashews that were unsalted. And using those in place of the raw I didn't even think to look at the raw ingredients label. Another A week later, we're looking at the ingredients label go and we have been eating a ton of peanut oil in our Kashi. And you had noticed that you had started hurting a little bit like inflammation. I mean, wake up, joints would be achy. And I don't know what prompts you to look at the label

Jarrod:

you thought, oh my word. This has peanut oil in it. We even think about that

Anita:

crazy. So we still have to do that. And because we did the best of us well, and we didn't think about it because there was a product. This was a product that was identical to the one we've always buying Costco, same box and everything. Only thing was it wasn't raw. It was roasted. It was there cashews that were roasted and not raw. So we

Jarrod:

do buy the cashews that are just cashews. There's no added oil. So we do buy that. And it just flew under our radar.

Anita:

And yeah, so then I'm looking at it going. Good grief, same company, same product, same box. It's just a different twist on it. So same thing with mild versus medium salsas, you might find them out one that has no oil at it. And so you think I want a little more heat, I'm gonna go with their medium, you better flip that sister and look at that label, because a lot of times a medium one might have oil in the mild wind doesn't. We've seen that so many times. So this is what you want to be aware of.

Jarrod:

All right, well, yes, I want to come back full circle and get back to the why you don't buy something for what's not in it. Because the front of the label is I've said this before, it's like a billboard. It's there to advertise to you to draw you and draw Are you in it's like we've used example of olive oil mayo? Well, yeah, it's got olive oil. And well, this is back when we were eating it many years ago, I won't get you started. But it had a little bit in there, but it was very low on the list of ingredients. But what they're trying to do is suck you in by it not having something. It's a distraction. I use example. Now we don't believe in magic, but I use the example of It's like a magic trick, where they're, they're making something disappear. And so you're watching the left hand, all the while the right hands, throwing that object behind them. And you don't ever see that that's a good thing. So you're saying no trans fat in it, but maybe has a lot of sugar, but they don't want you to see that.

Anita:

They're distracting from that what it actually has in it by telling you what it doesn't.

Jarrod:

So they it's like you were saying vegan? Well, so many people associate the word vegan was healthy, and many times it is. But sometimes it's not that men have a lot of pressed out oils, there's no animal product in it. But it does have a lot of oils, or sugar or other things like that, that aren't health promoting. It's like with all of I'm sorry, not olive oil, coconut oil and palm oil. They're super high and saturated fats, even higher than animal fats. So I mean, even with some of those things you got to know and you got to be careful and make wise decisions, but do not buy products for what's not in them.

Anita:

So the absolute best place to shop is where it's in the produce section where you get the whole foods or it's in the freezer section where you can buy the whole foods, even in the freezer section. If it's got a label, you flip that puppy over and read it frozen corn, don't assume it's just frozen corn. Okay, look at the label frozen potatoes. Those are some of the worst you think I was just potatoes. And then it's called simply, or natural potatoes or something like that. And you're gonna go, Oh, it's just simply potatoes. It's just potatoes. No, they can trick you with the title too.

Jarrod:

Yeah. And where was that title found? On the on the front of the package? Yes. on the Billboard, you're walking by simply potatoes. Oh, I just want potatoes. I'm gonna grab that product. And I mean, that was one of our initial, we saw that it had I don't know how many different ingredients in it. But we couldn't pronounce them. So we have no idea why they were even in there. Right? It's

Anita:

not just simply potatoes. Definitely flip that over. Look at that ingredients. Label. You guys, this has been another episode of Game Changing information. I'm telling you, we are all about bringing this to you. If you will just put these things into practice. This is a simple thing. We haven't bombarded you have 100 steps here. This is one easy step you can take do this for yourself every day, start choosing the products when you're looking at something processed, even minimally processed things like tofu, okay, look at that label, buy the one with the least ingredients vote with your dollar. And companies will start producing things that are actually a lot healthier for us. And when all else fails, shop, the Brady sales shop, the sick, the whole foods, the solid goodness that was created for your body to be fueled on. Because if you're a Bible believer, I want you to crack it open and look at Genesis because what you're gonna see is what we were originally created to eat. And that is what just like cars originally created to run on a certain fuel. They might run a certain amount of time on a different type of fuel. But it's not going to be such a pretty ride. They won't run well and won't run long. No. And so you want to think about that with your body. How were you originally created to aid get as close to the garden as you can eat your fruits and vegetables, whole grains, nuts, seeds and logjams. We're all about showing you how to do that.
