Speaker 1:

Hey there, sunshine. Welcome to the Power On Plants podcast. We're your host, jared and Anita Roussell, and we're absolutely head over heels for whole plant foods and helping you navigate this incredible plant based journey. That's because our lives have been completely changed by plant based goodness. We used to struggle every day with excess pounds and low energy, vascular disease, joint pain and lack of sleep, just to name a few, and even though we're medical professionals, we still weren't getting practical answers that actually worked. So we dug into the research, we started living what we learned, and now we both have our lives back, and that's what we want for you, too. The truth is, you can do this, and it's not hard. You just need a way that will bring real and lasting change, and that path. It has to be simple and enjoyable, and it's got to be delicious too. So are you ready to live your life to the fullest? Then you're in the right place, because living without limits that's what Power On Plants is all about. So pull up your chair, grab a matcha latte and let's get started. Well, hello sister, we are counting down the top eight steps for dining out on a plant based vegan diet and actually enjoying it. Right, it can be a challenge to dine out if you don't know what to do, but with these eight steps, dining out is going to be so much more enjoyable for you. Now, if you did not hear our last episode, episode 222, go back and listen to that, because that is part one. This is a continuation of episode 222. I know that you're going to find some amazing, actionable steps here, and Jared and I can't wait to share it all with you. So enjoy it's the five minute delicious dressing that you have in your purse that is going to taste way better than anything they have on their menu, and you will not feel bad because your joints won't be aching tomorrow, you're not going to have low energy and be sluggish, and you will be so much more able to enjoy it, knowing that you're not going to have to pay tomorrow. It is a real thing. Now, this brings me to something that I've just got to talk about for a second, because sometimes our clients have mentioned to us that they feel like now that they're eating clean, that they're eating healthy and plant based and getting all these good foods especially when they go all in and they're feeling so much better, they're scared that somehow, by eating clean, they now feel bad when they go out to eat. So they've been eating well for a while. They eat clean during the week, let's just use that for an example. And then on the weekends you go out to eat a couple of times and you feel so bad for the first few days of the next week you feel like, oh great, I didn't feel this bad before when I wasn't eating clean. So somehow the clean eating or the plant based is causing me to be more sensitive to the quote regular foods, the standard American diet, which is absolutely not true. I'm going to let you in on a little secret. What's happening to you? You know how you feel those few days after you eat something that's not plant based, that has the oil, the fat, the salt, the sugar.

Speaker 2:

And there's a name for that that we've coined is called the food hangover. The food hangover, food hangover Okay.

Speaker 1:

So when you have a food hangover and you feel like crap I don't know any other way to say that it is awful and you just have this massive regret until you go out to the restaurant the next time. Okay, but you're not going to have this this time, because we're showing you how to do this the right way. But I want you to understand what is really happening here. It's not that the clean foods have made you now react to the bad foods. It's the fact that the way you feel the first of the week after you've eaten not clean on the weekends, after you've gone out to eat and not done it the right way, you're feeling the way you always felt before. This isn't something new that's happened to you. You just always felt that way before. It was your normal, so you didn't know any different. You didn't have those days of feeling great to compare it to you. Now You've been eating close to 100% plant-based, 70% plant-based. Your body is saying, oh, thank you, thank you, and you're starting to feel better and you're seeing your symptoms go away. The weekend hits and you think I'm just gonna go out and have a little this or that. Next thing. You know You're in pain.

Speaker 2:

And this is what's happening, though, is that, as you clean up the diet and you feel better, it doesn't happen just like like that. It happens quickly very but not within just a few hours. I mean, there may be a transition over a few weeks where you start having that energy and your skin, your skin starts glowing and like you, where you didn't even realize that you, oh yeah, had joint pain or didn't feel good. You just thought well, I had a joint pain, but it was a couple months into us that we went a hundred percent, completely plant-based, that I started thinking well, wait a minute, my arm, my shoulders not hurting anymore. When did that happen? Just because it was kind of gradual. But if you eat one of these meals, then within a couple of hours, I mean sometimes there have been times when I ate hospital food and they snuck some oil in it because I would ask the guys there any oil in it? and like oh no, I don't think there's any oil in it. And then after about an hour you feel it. I mean, I could feel that my blood pressure was up, I could feel a little off and I thought so there was oil in it.

Speaker 1:

Now you thought someone lied to me.

Speaker 2:

I Can't trust that dude anymore but, then the next day you're between surgery and then you're hungry.

Speaker 1:

It's like, okay, I gotta eat something yeah, and if you're new here, jaren's a physician assistant, so that's what he's talking about when you're doing telemedicine now, but I did do orthopedic spine surgery for a number of years.

Speaker 2:

But getting back to this, that when you eat that meal you're going to feel that quickly, so you're going to notice that stark difference quickly. But I cleaned up your diet and you started feeling better. Then it was just more gradual. It wasn't an overnight feeling.

Speaker 1:

Oh, yeah, you may Attribute that.

Speaker 2:

Well, great, like you said, now that I've cleaned up, I can't enjoy this stuff. Right feel terrible, but I didn't feel terrible before. Well, actually you did. You just didn't notice it, because that was your mom.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, I was your norm, but when I didn't know these tips were sharing with you today, I used to feel like I've been beaten after one meal out. I mean, that's ridiculous. I shouldn't feel that way now. Do not beat yourself up if you find out later I that had a little oil or a little this or that in it. The goal here is to not beat yourself up. You're gonna learn what you can have. You're gonna learn which restaurants will more easily cater to you. This is all a learning experience. Okay, so you're not going to beat yourself up if you get a little of something that you might not have eaten at home. Our goal is to have you walk away and feel as great as possible so you can keep moving and doing the things you love without having A setback for a couple of days and how you feel. I'm not talking about a setback in. Well, I'm not playing bass anymore, I'm not this or that. That's so, not true, okay?

Speaker 2:

Also, too, we don't want you to feel limited, that you can't go out and enjoy these experiences with family and friends, because that's not. This is about?

Speaker 1:

no, you absolutely can. So I hope that point makes perfect sense to you. But the reason that you feel it when you go out to eat and you don't try to tailor your meals, you just order something straight off the menu and you get a little meat and you have some cheese and you have some sour cream. The reason you're aching is not because, oh, now, my body sensitive to Regular food or the standard American diet, is because you always felt bad before, so you just didn't notice the difference. Okay, so number five is purse sauce. It take your sauce. Well, how do I make a sauce? Anita, I've got to have a salad dressing. I miss my salad dressing so much that tastes good and are sick to my ribs and are creamy. Girl, you're talking to the Dairy Queen a lemon, cheesy dressings and sauces and things. You know I got to have it. So am I purse sauce in it when I go to a restaurant 100% of the time? Absolutely, do I feel bad about it? Doesn't make me feel weird. No, cuz I'm discreet about it. No one ever thinks anything or asking thing. Actually, one time a waitress saw me pour the dressing on my salad no-transcript, what is that? And I said it's a ranch dressing I made and she said, girl, what you put in that, well, it looks amazing. And I told her she said I got to try that in my blender. Seriously, our dressings in the Power and Plants cookbook if you don't know where to start, these are five minute dressings you can get into your stuff. Go to powerandplantscom slash cookbook and get your copy today because it's digital, you can click right to it. It's super easy to access on any device you have. And listen, sister, I'm talking. When I say easy, I'm talking. You throw a few ingredients into your blender and turn it on your high speed blender. You need something that's gonna pulverize the stuff and you've got this smooth and creamy deliciousness that you are not gonna believe. It is a game changer. I don't know where all the nasty recipes are coming from, but if you've tried a slew of them, like I did when I first started this, and you feel like I give up, I can't do this, this is not gonna work for me. It's just not true. Okay, it's just not true. So find the right purses and sauces that work for you, that you absolutely love, and purse that sauce, okay six. There's no need for you to sit there miserable with a plain salad while everyone else is enjoying their meal. So please don't just order salad. If you like salad, great, but make it stick to your ribs, okay. And number seven drink a lot of water, because odds are you're gonna get a little more salt than you normally would have eaten when you're eating out. So drink a lot of water, because that can make you feel tired afterwards and not feel good. And you could consider taking a digestive enzyme. If you have one that you know works for you, you might wanna take one with your meal. And number eight I want you to remember this is one of the most important things we've shared in this episode. This is not really about the food. Please don't let your focus be on the food here. Yes, it can be absolutely delicious in a discreet and satisfying and joy-filled way, but this is about feeling energized every single day and being your absolute best, feeling great, so you can do all those things you love. We want you to be able to fully live. This is what our heart is for you, and we know it's possible because it's happened for us. It happens for our clients on a daily basis. We've seen the most chronic diseases of our time completely reversed right before our eyes. If you haven't heard my story, go back and listen to episode one. Yes, we were new to podcasting at the time so maybe we don't sound quite as relaxed on the mic, but you gotta hear the story because, sister, I have a feeling that there are parts of it in there you're gonna identify with, because I was in the same boat that a lot of you were in, and I feel your pain. I understand the struggle of not knowing how to eat and make it work, of not knowing things like how do you eat at someone else's house and how do you eat without oil and how do you actually make the food taste good. And I don't have two hours to spend in the kitchen. Listen, sister, if you're spending two hours in the kitchen something wrong you don't have to do that. Why are you making yourself miserable in the name of health? Those days are over. You found Power On Plants and you've got over 200 free episodes right here for you, with actionable steps to get you started. And if you think you know what. I don't have time to piece all that together, I'm busy. I need a step-by-step guide. I want you to hold my hand. Get on the Power On Plants wait list, you will be the first to find out about Power On Plantscom slash membership, even if we're in the waitlist period. We will let you know by email as soon as the doors open up. Next, sister, take one thing, what I'll always say. Take one thing that you learned from this and implement these things. Start using them. Take simple action. So the next time you go out to eat, what are you going to do? You're going to think about taking a purse sauce if you have time ahead. If you're already out and you can't do the purse sauce, you're going to order balsamic and brown mustard. Right, it really can be that simple. But let's just recap that top eight strategies for eating out. So you have a game plan. I don't want you to limit yourself to vegan-only options or feel bad or like the odd one out when your friends want to go to a quote regular restaurant. You can order off most any menu and still leave satisfied and focusing on what matters most. Number two do not make a fuss. Be discreet. You don't have to tell your life story at the table to your friends and family or the servers either. And number three look for a meal that you can easily tweak with just one or two ingredient swaps. Number four do not feel limited by the menu. Quietly, look over it ahead of time or at the table, and you're going to take out those purse weapons to use them right, it might be your phone, it might be a pen and a paper, and you're going to jot down the ingredients they have and make the best looking bowl at the table for yourself. Now, number five we're going to purse sauce. It, sister. You know what that means. We've talked all about it. If you don't remember, hit rewind and listen again, because the purse sauce is about to become your new best friend. And if you don't know what to make, remember the Power and Plants Cookbook is a simple, easy option for you to get the first ones that you love. We hear over and over again your sauces change my life just knowing how to make ranch and blue cheese and thousand island and, oh, the Asian peanut sauce. All these different things can go on. So many things. They can go on baked potatoes, they can go on salads, they can go on pasta. They can go on sandwiches. Right Sandwiches. You know, some restaurants do even have tofu. I mean, that's another thing you can look for on the menu. Okay, I'm getting sidetracked, girl. We got to get back to it here. So, number six what do you need to do? There is no need for you to sit there and be miserable with a plain salad, so don't just go straight to the salad. Yeah, that might be a good place to get some of the first ingredients to put on your list, but you don't have to make a salad here. Remember, at this restaurant, we've got furrow, we've got quinoa, we've got rice, we've got all these stick to the ribs delicious things. That's going to make you feel satisfied and happy. Number seven drink a lot of water and consider taking digestive enzymes. And number eight I want you to always remember this is about our relationships, because that is what life is all about. This food. Why is it so important for you to eat clean? What is it you want from this? What is it that you're going to be able to do when your aching joints are gone, when your cholesterol is back to normal, when your blood pressure is back to normal? Sister, this is what happens to people who follow the power on plants method, the strategies that we teach. We see it on a regular basis. The weight comes off without even trying. All these things are not just your age or just your genes. We've got to embrace these important things that you need to understand so that you can be freed to live the life that God's called you to live. He's got service he wants you to do. Inside your home, outside your home, people are waiting to hear the truth from you, to break free in whatever area of their life that you're going to speak truth into. How can you speak truth when you can't even hardly get out of bed, when you have to force yourself to live an active life that you want to live, but yet on the inside you're so tired you're just trying to figure out how you can quickly get to bed so you can hopefully recover, so you can survive the next day. Okay, you need to be able to think clearly. You need your vibrant energy and you want to feel good. Let me tell you something. This is how you do it. You learn how to power yourself well on plants. That's what power on plants is all about. What tip has blown your mind the most here today? I love sharing these tips with you, and so does Jared, but we want to hear about the one thing that you've learned today that is going to change things for you that you're going to put into practice right away. Whatever podcast app that you're listening to this episode on, spotify, itunes, whatever it is go under there and leave us a written review, just one or two sentences.
