Jarrod:

Welcome to power on plants podcast. If this is your first time here, welcome, we are glad to have you. Now, if you've not heard us, we talk about plants and plant based eating and plant based joy. We also talk about how that gives you power, how you feel your body well. But it's not just about the plants. There are other things that are important. It's before the food gets on your fork, before the food gets on your plate before the food even comes into your home. What is the most important starting point and we talk about this a fair amount? Because it is so important. It's mindset. Because what you think, will direct what you do?

Anita:

Absolutely. When you have a thought process, when you learn something, when you've absorbed an idea about something into your life, so becomes a part of you that thought that belief that you formed is going to determine the actions that you take as a result of those beliefs that you hold. So if the mindsets wrong, and you've learned all these things, and you think they're right, and you can't you don't get rid of the old ones and replace them with the right ones, you can't move forward,

Jarrod:

your intention will affect your direction. Yes, good little Ryan there to help you kind of remember that. So Anita had an experience here just recently that I just felt very compelled to share. So recently, she came into contact with somebody now, to respect privacy, we won't say exactly how and what the interaction was. But this is somebody that she knows. And this is a woman who her profession, she's pretty busy, very busy. And she uses her arms a lot. And whenever they get together, they'll talk about things that they are passionate about. And of course, anytime we get together, PLANT BASE seems to come up. And so there was some discussion about that. And we'll call her sunning. We'll use a different name, since you call her by sunshine, we'll call her

Anita:

Sunny,

Jarrod:

gracias Sunny.

Anita:

She has a very happy, Sunny personality. But she's been frustrated lately, because she feels like she's like us approaching 50. And we're, we're not approaching anymore. We've hit that mark, we've arrived. But you know, she's like us in the age. But she's kind of like where I was at when I was sporty like 10 years ago. I mean, I was in a really hard place with my body, particularly my joints. That's where what we kind of have in common, her joints hurt her a lot. And she needs to be able to use them to do things that she wants to do. So she feels like the position of her body, the shape of her body is holding her back from living the full life she wants to live. And we talk about this all the time, because the foods greatly can determine that. But the mindset even before the fade has to be right. Right. And so one of the things that stuck out about what you shared with me is that she said her shoulders hurt her elbows hurt the joints in her upper extremities. But she also shared a dream she has. This was kind of interesting, and it doesn't have anything to do with her profession at all. So she has a regular profession, you know that she goes to every single day. And she said, and I said What is it about not being able to do the things that you want to do? Like, what is it that you want to do that you dream of doing? And she lights up and she proceeds to tell me she wants to learn to pilot a plane, she wants to fly? And so the thing is, you have to know your reason, like what do you want to do? And you've got to have the body that's going to allow you to get there, right? But it was so neat talking to you. She just lit up about that. Well,

Jarrod:

I laugh because that's not a typical response that you would hear but I have also thought the same thing in years past like How cool would it be to do that? I'm kind of over that now. Tell him, I still think it would be cool. But it's kind of like

Anita:

I said, My husband wants to do that, too. You have mentioned that so many times I have in

Jarrod:

the past, but the just the expense and the time of the owning the plane and everything is kind of like, yeah, you know, maybe not, I'll just pay somebody else to do it.

Anita:

She didn't even necessarily want to own a plane, she just wants to be able to just get in a plane when she wants to be able to fly. She said, But I've got to be in shape, I've got to feel like doing it. And right now, I don't feel like doing it. So she's at that point where she knows there's something I need to do. There's something about the food that if I change that, that's gonna change things for me.

Jarrod:

And that was something else that struck me about the conversation that you've shared with me, I wasn't there. But it's she knows kind of the direction she needs to go. But she has not gone there yet. And that really, in my mind started me thinking of what's going on inside because we've all been in those situations. Lately, we've had that that moment. And so I thought I kind of put myself in her position. And I was telling a Anita, you know, anytime we meet somebody in that situation, and we're kind of getting into that coaching position at coaching mindset, at least for me, my my question was, is, okay, imagine yourself in that moment, being able to do that, you're fully free, no pain, full energy, mind is clear, in the case of this, piloting an airplane, would the foods that were preventing you from doing that taste as good as that moment does.

Anita:

So in other words, if you have something that you want to do in your bed, why whatever your thing is, that thing you want to do that you just can't maybe you're not fully going all in, in your business, maybe you're an entrepreneur or a business owner, or business person, a leader in business and your career. And you just you can't go as far as you want to go. You're holding yourself back and

Jarrod:

energy, but it could also be confidence level, we hear that a lot.

Anita:

Confidence. Exactly. So you feel like you just can't put yourself out there because either you're embarrassed or you just don't feel like it, you just don't feel good enough to do those things that you want to do. What is it in life that you're being held back in that way from? You know, for me, it was making the memories with my family, I wanted to make sure she's been able to climb up one flight of stairs and took the kids in? Yeah, just do my daily activities. Yeah, wanting to travel and see the world I couldn't travel in the shape I was in if I couldn't go up one flight of stairs, how is it going to travel? I mean, that was why I was crying when we were looking at going to pick our daughter, Kate at from China, because I was in such pain. And I was thinking how are we going to be able to go here and go there and do all these things we had to do.

Jarrod:

I mean, it's no small trip, that's not just going down the block to the grocery store,

Anita:

right? But we did it, we managed it. But it could have been so much more enjoyable. And we could have gone all in and done so many more things while we were there. If I had been in a different position than I that I was at the time, thankfully, that's not my story anymore. And we know time after time we see people reverse these things, the common diseases, but what is that? What is that thing that you want to do? Think about it? Do you want to run and chase your grandkids and see them grow up? And do you want and the other thing she said to me was, I just don't want to grow old. I don't want to grow old and feel bad. I want to grow old well, so as I age, I want to live fully. I don't want to get all these things where I'm just I'm still alive. But I'm just sitting there, right? You want to live, you don't want to just be alive, right? It's very different. It's a very different situation. But I had the thought of okay, now you're in that position you have what it is that you want. And you realize, okay, change in the way that I'm doing things, making that shift finding that plant based joy, and you're there did the foods that you feel like in the past you

Jarrod:

couldn't give up to they really taste that good. I mean, it wasn't they weren't giving up your dream. That's what you're Yes, exactly. Thank you. That was a very good way of summarizing. So are the are the

Anita:

foods that are causing your inflammation, the foods that we know, cause inflammation, oil, meat, dairy, cheese, all the things I was addicted to, I mean, the things I used to eat, and it's a very real thing, and we're not selling that and I didn't know how to change it. But are those things worth is eating those things worth losing your dreams? I mean, because that's what it boils down to really.

Jarrod:

I mean, if it may feel like it because we've heard this where people I like to never give that up. I'm just I never could. But it's just because I don't a lot of it's because they don't know how well they don't know how and they've not been through that. And the people that we have seen that have made that transition. I've said oh, it was totally worth it. Right. Had I known I would have made this trip. transition so much. So that's

Anita:

my story. I mean, absolutely. If I had known I would have gone all in with this years and years ago, but you have to find the ways to do it again, I go back to this again, and again, you'll hear me say it, because it's so very important is that you've got to learn how to eat in a way that fuels your body, primo that fuels that the absolute best. And no matter what the way of eating the thing that all the leaders of those different ways agree upon is more fruits, more vegetables. Now, they may limit the types depending on what it is. But I mean, like leafy greens, the veggies, the things that we show you how to eat the grains, the things like that, the nuts and seeds. Now with grains, sometimes they'll limited depending on the diet, but those main fruits and vegetables, nobody's gonna argue about that. That is what they all agree on, eat more fruits and vegetables, because what we know, by our own experience, but also by research years and years and years and years of research is that those are the foods that fuel your body. Well. And if you're a believer, I will tell you look in Genesis, Genesis, the very beginning of Genesis tells you what were you created to eat? Okay, Genesis 129, look it up. And so that lines up with the science that shouldn't surprise us. Science backs all that up, you know, that's what we were originally created to ate. So our body is fueled the best on those foods. So you have to decide, is it worth me eating these other food like products, right? Or things that I wasn't originally intended date, my body can run on it for a while, but it's not going to run optimally, I'm going to have pain. And I'm going to have because what we want you to understand is, this is not normal aging, you know, having these PE aches and pains. And we've come to believe seminars exhausted

Jarrod:

all the time. And that's just normal. I'm just old. I'm just getting old. I've heard people say that in their 40s 40s is not Oh, it's not?

Anita:

And they'll look at you and say, Oh, I'm just getting no, do you know how it is? No, no, I don't. Because from 40 to 50, I feel better now than I did. And and that really honestly that should we should be finding ways to come out of that and to start feeling better. Because we want you to know that you can live your dreams, it's possible to feel better than you do today. It just takes one step. And then another step. And it all starts with your mindset. But you have to believe that it's possible. That's the very first step you

Jarrod:

have to believe it. And you have to know like we say your big why, what is your motivation? What is it you want to do that you're not able to do now.

Anita:

And maybe you think you've got something chronic? I mean, it's a disease like that type two diabetes, or you've got heart problems where you've got high cholesterol, or you've got high blood pressure, and you think I'm gonna be on these meds forever, because that's what stops me from having high blood pressure stops me from having high cholesterol. But they're not what, like you've got to get to the root of what caused,

Jarrod:

those are saying that they're not curing it. And it's a big difference. And I think we've lost sight of that. I've also heard of things like kidney disease, chronic kidney disease, people that have been in end stage, reversed it by changing what they eat right now, are we guaranteeing that's going to happen? Well, no, of course not. But we have seen these stories over and over again. Well,

Anita:

a lot of these things, we've experienced these things, we do see it, it happens. It's real. You know, we've had a lot of these things, reverse. And so when you see it and you read the stories, look at plant based testimonials, if you want to get yourself pumped up about this way of living, it is possible. I mean, people comment on it all the time. I've come off all my medications with my doctor's supervision. You know, I've only been doing this three months and I'm off my, I'm no longer diabetic. No one ever wants to. Yeah, they didn't even know it was past. They weren't doing

Jarrod:

it for that reason. They just knew they need to get healthier. And then they report. I'm off my meds. I was acting this this is amazing.

Anita:

I was they'll say things like I was taking three to four blood pressure pills. And now I'm taking none. With my doctor's supervision. Again, you know, we're not anti medicine. We're medical professionals, nursing professional I am but this the thing is, is that it's not normal for us to take medic, that many the amount of medications that we're taking, and we're not trying to actually address the root problem. So, nine times out of 10 the when food changes, things start to change when you get the right foods, the fruits, vegetables, whole grain nuts and seeds your body will do. Absolutely. It's created to heal. Yes. And when it sends us when these things are happening and the sicknesses and diseases and things are happening, you got to say to yourself, these are warning signs your body's waving a red flag is saying, do something, do something this isn't working for me, what we're doing right now is not working for me. So these are the things we want you to understand no matter what situation as you're in right now that you found yourself in with your physical health, with your emotional health, with your mental health, that things can get better, they can get better, and there is hope. But it all starts with your mindset. Yes, it all starts with your mindset. So you've got to understand number one, that there is something you can do. There is something you can do number two, like Jared saying, is this where you are now? And is it worth saying here? Are things getting worse to keep eating those foods? Or are your dreams worth more? Are you worth more?

Jarrod:

And we're here to tell you though, that if you were to change to the plant based way of eating, it's extremely enjoyable. It is we love it and our clients well and Sunny said that her husband would have to give up sweet treats. And that was another roadblock for her.

Anita:

She said to me, she said he's got to give up sweets, he's gonna that's what he's gonna have to do. And I said, No, he doesn't. He doesn't have to, he just needs to learn anyway. It's not exactly I can't we talk about this. It's not, I can't have sweets, it's how can I enjoy my desserts? Right? How can I have desserts that I still enjoy, and still allow my body to heal? So you can do that? There are ways to do that, that will work for you. You've just got to learn how, and it's possible. We want you to know it's possible. We're excited for you that you're on this journey that you're learning all these exciting steps to take, think about mindsets, what mindsets are holding you back. And today I want you to go to and just write down your dream. What is it that you're going to be able to do when you start moving forward and you may already be moving forward. keep that momentum going. One step and the next step do not get overwhelmed. Don't get in some group where they're bombarding you with a million things to do. Or you're just amassing a bazillion new recipes. Learn one step at a time and just do that step.

Jarrod:

And if you have one misstep, all is not lost. Don't beat yourself up. Yeah, you just fall off the wagon. And you start back over from where you started on the journey. They'd be like if you were to go for a walk in your neighborhood. If you stumbled Did you you instantly appear back home? No. You just kind of skinned your knee but you get up and you keep going forward.

Anita:

Exactly. Just keep making forward progress. We're thrilled for you on this journey. We know how life changing it can be. Shoot us an email at Hello Sen. Shawn at power plants.com And let us know how the whole food plant based journey is going for you. We'd love to hear your story.
