Speaker 1:

Tonight, jared and I are meeting you at a local restaurant to go out to dinner together. We are so excited to get to meet you for the first time. We hug and start talking and I forgot to zip up my purse. And so you glance down and you see there's a little container inside my purse and you wonder what in the world is in there. You say, anita, what is in your purse? And I'm going to tell you all about purse sauce. Listen, friend, I cannot wait for you to discover this secret.

Speaker 1:

If you've heard about purse sauce before, I promise you're going to learn a few new ideas when it comes to what you can add to your food when you go out to eat. I know, I know I get it. You want to dine out like a regular person, right? You get tired of feeling different, like you just can't do things the way other people do. Well, you can. When you eat plant-based, the pop way. We're going to show you how we came up with the idea of adding a purse sauce to your purse or your bag, your backpack, maybe. If you're a guy, it's very simple to do. You can be nonchalant about it. No one even has to know. You just know because you were curious about what was in my purse. But nobody is ever going to know. It's in there and when you put it on your table it's going to be so not obvious at all. You'll get sauce right on to your food and it is going to make the biggest difference. But the biggest thing is not only is the food going to taste better than it would have with the oil-laden, sugar-laden, salt-filled sauces that would have been on that delicious whole food, plant-based meal you ordered. You won't be hurting and sluggish and exhausted afterwards because you ate all of those unhealthy foods that have been holding you back from living your dreams for so long. Jared and I can't wait to share more on this episode with you about purse sauces. Even the guys are going to love this one.

Speaker 1:

Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast. Are you tired of staring into the fridge wondering what to eat so you can just feel better? Do you want to avoid spending hours in the kitchen making complicated meals in the name of health? Would you love to leave fatigue behind and finally have the energy to do all the things you want to do? Hi, we're Jared and Anita Roussel.

Speaker 1:

Christ followers, healthcare professionals, parents of four and big fans of great tasting food. We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods, but we still found ourselves struggling with what we thought were changes that come with age or bad genes, and we weren't finding answers the traditional route. So we dug into the research and created our secret nutritional weapon sustainable plant-based living. The truth is, you can eat more whole plant foods, and it's not hard. You just need the way that's realistic and delicious so you never feel deprived. If you're ready to enjoy your meals, no longer be held back by your health struggles and actively live your life, then you're in the right place. So grab your favorite plant-based cup of happy pop in those earbuds and let's get started.

Speaker 1:

Yet jared and I are passionate about showing you how these foods that we were created to eat actually can work with your regular schedule and you can have meals that you love. Never feel deprived, never think about going back because you love the lifestyle. Dieting is kicked to the curb, although always are gone. There's so many ways I could go right now in this conversation, but we don't have time to cover it all. I'm laying this out for you inside our brand new course that will be upcoming shortly, but what I want you to know today is just one thing just doing one simple thing at a time. Right now, while you're waiting for us to be able to walk you step by step to plant based joy is going to start changing things for you in massive ways, and purse sauce is one of those things I wish I could tell you exactly.

Speaker 1:

When I first came up with this idea, it wasn't something I saw anybody else do, and I actually named it myself purse sauce.

Speaker 1:

I've never heard anybody else in the plant based space, or any space for that matter, talk about purse sauce, but this was one of those mind blowing things that just changed everything for us, because when you go whole food plant based, if you don't do it the right way, it's very easy to start feeling like you're very different and you're missing out and it just doesn't have to be that way.

Speaker 1:

And one of those times when I noticed that our clients feel that way and where we felt that way when we didn't know how to do it, was dining out.

Speaker 1:

You want to be able to go out and have really great food, good ingredients that taste amazing, but we find that a lot of the things that are standing in your way to feeling good are placed into the foods through the sauces and through the dressings, and so you have this really healthy thing like a beautiful salad or a beautiful bowl of some type with all kinds of vegetables and delicious things, and then they put the sauce all over the top and you can't figure out why.

Speaker 1:

When you just quote, went and ate a salad and now you don't feel good, your joints ache, you're exhausted and you're tired of feeling this way every time you go out to eat. But if you will implement carrying some of these purse sauces with you that I'm talking about today, this can change everything for you when you start dining out, because you're going to love the way it tastes. It is quick and simple to prepare and it's going to make your food taste amazing. People are going to want to try it at the table, trust me. How many times have we had that happen?

Speaker 2:

It's been quite a few. People see that and they want to try that. They take a little sampling, they wow, that's really good, and then they end up using it as well. So now we always make a full container, and our containers are around what? 16 ounces. We go ahead and just make it full so that everybody can share in it.

Speaker 1:

Isn't that hilarious. And we're talking about people who are not whole food plant-based. What is that? Can I try it? They try a little spoonful and next thing you know they're picking up the sauce container pouring it over their meal. That is so much fun. I just love it. It's another way to make people that are with you curious about the way that you're eating and maybe even start to eat a little more whole food plant-based themselves. And before long, maybe they're all whole food plant-based and healing and getting better and reversing disease that they were told they would have their entire life, like type 2 diabetes and high blood pressure and high cholesterol and extra pounds and all these things that they've been struggling with their entire life.

Speaker 1:

And all of it changed over something as simple as the idea of a purse sauce. So what exactly is a purse sauce? This is what I call my five minute power on plant dressings and sauces, things that, literally, you throw this into the blender, you throw that into the blender, blend it up, done five minutes or less. I'm seriously stretching it when I say five minutes, because most of these sauces I can do in under three easy and most of the time, once you start making them, you'll get to a point where you'll just throw in the amount you like and you'll kind of adjust things out. But I've set it to where you can just follow it exactly and get a delicious sauce. But it's really easy to tweak these things and you're going to learn how to do that as you go.

Speaker 1:

But you take this sauce and you put it into a container. That's not obvious. I mean, I wouldn't use like a neon container, you know, a hot pink or a bright green container that draws attention right, and one of the things that we don't like to do when we first start this journey is draw attention to the fact that we're doing things differently, because we just want to blend in and enjoy the conversation and not draw attention to ourself. We want it to be about the people that we're with so we can listen to them and serve them and make it a fun evening together without it all being focused on us, and it doesn't need to be. So just put it in a container that you love.

Speaker 1:

I have a beach happy container that you can see on our Instagram page, where I take my favorite drinks to the beach in it, and it's an insulated container so it keeps my sauce cold. So think about an insulated, stainless container that you might have that you would put your drinks in your favorite drinks. So it's kind of tall. I mean, choose a container that's going to fit in whatever bag you're carrying. For one Number two, you're just going to choose something that doesn't stand out like a sore thumb, so it's not a bright color, right, and then you don't have to worry about it. So you make this sauce that takes literally five minutes or less. You pour it into your container. I like the ones that keep it cold, so I use the insulated drink containers. I pop it in my purse. Make sure the lid is on tightly, please. You do not want that popping open, because you really don't literally want a purse saucy.

Speaker 2:

You don't want it in your purse. You don't want a saucy purse? No, you don't. And it sounds like that's just a simple gammy. Hey, it happens, it just it happens sometimes. So double check the lid. Something else I was thinking too as far as the container size, think about who all's going to be there. If it's just two of you, maybe you don't need 16 ounces of sauce. Now, when we go out, it's six of us, sometimes with our family, and then sometimes more if we're going with friends or guests. So we pack ready.

Speaker 1:

Absolutely. You've got to be ready because I promise, just like Jared said, the people at the table with you are going to want to try it. If they don't, I'd be very surprised.

Speaker 2:

I think one of the aspects with having a purse sauce is that it makes it easier when you're ordering, because if you have a salad now, one of our favorite places we go to we've mentioned in one of our other episodes called Fish Out of Water there's a quinoa bowl that has a sauce. All we do is just say, hey, either leave off the sauce or I would just like the sauce on the side, that's it. You don't have to go through any questions. Hey, does it have this? Can you omit that when you make the sauce? Because many times the sauces and dressings are pre-made. You just simply say, hey, just leave it on the side, made. You just simply say, hey, just leave it on the side. And then you've got your own. And it makes it very easy, very inconspicuous, like Anita said, nonchalant, and I mean we wouldn't think of any other way of doing it now.

Speaker 1:

That's such a great point. I love that you brought that up, because it is another way to not draw attention to yourself to just say just leave it off or just put it on the side. If you want to try it or you think someone else at your table might enjoy that sauce, you can have it left on the side and then again they don't think anything about it. And so once we place our order, I just go ahead and casually remove the bottle of sauce from my purse and set it on the table. It's no big deal. We've ordered drinks. It's sitting there. No one has ever asked or questioned anything. And then I don't make a big deal about it when I open it and put it on my meal. I just open it up and pour it on there. Now, if you're a close friend of mine and we're sitting there together and we're dining out, I would lean over and say hey, do you want some of this? I brought the sauce with me. It has this and that, and if you think it'd go well with your meal, you can try it and use it on your meal too if you'd like. If not, I'm not offended. So it just gives you options and it's just so much fun to be able to share eating this way with people, because I think what happens in the plant-based space even is that things just are too difficult. Why do things have to become difficult? Keep things simple for yourself. When you learn these step-by-step ways and these secret insider tricks to doing things, all of a sudden it becomes just what you do, and before you go to the restaurant.

Speaker 1:

There's one more tip I want to give you, and it's consider the cuisine, because let's say you're going to a down-home kind of southern foods restaurant and you're going to get maybe a baked potato. You could use barbecue sauce on it or something else that you could put barbecue on wherever you would go to eat barbecue. Maybe you're getting a bowl and you think a barbecue sauce would be good on there, or a nacho cheese sauce, or maybe cashew cream. One thing I love to do when we go to eat Mexican and I know that's the type of cuisine we're going for I would use the Power and Plants cashew cream and I would put a squeeze of lime in it and stir in a bit of my favorite salsa. Now I've got a salsa, cashew cream that's limey. That's going to be delicious on Mexican dishes like veggie fajitas or a taco bowl or anything that I might get at a Mexican restaurant it's delicious bowl or anything that I might get at a Mexican restaurant it's delicious.

Speaker 1:

If I know it's a restaurant that I might want to get a salad. Blue cheese is great. Also really, really good on a baked potato or ranch dressing Another favorite for a baked potato or a salad. So these are things that you can use on multiple dishes. Maybe I want to get a baked potato and a salad. I could use that one dressing, either ranch or the pot blue cheese, on both of those things. So I want to think ahead a little bit about what I might want to order, but especially the type of cuisine and that's going to help steer which five minute dressing I make to get in that purse sauce bottle and get that into my purse or backpack before I leave to go to the restaurant.

Speaker 1:

Now, all of those recipes that I just mentioned you can find in our original cookbook bundle at poweronplantscom forward slash cookbook. But then in the Thrive cookbook at that same web address you can find Chick-No-Way sauce. Oh my goodness, that one is a game changer. Or what about the lemony tahini sauce, one of my favorite dressings for salad of all time. I don't even know how to describe it. It just tastes so good. It's creamy. It doesn't have nuts in it. If, for some reason, you can't eat nuts, it's made with sesame seeds. It is absolutely fantastic. Or our yum yum sauce is also in there.

Speaker 1:

So say, I was going to a Japanese or Chinese restaurant and I was going to get a bowl of vegetables that had been steamed or sauteed right, and I was going to get a bowl of vegetables that had been steamed or sauteed right. Then I would want to get that yum yum sauce in there. Or to go on my bowl of rice. Oh, my goodness, you're not gonna believe how good this is. I cannot wait to share this with you.

Speaker 1:

Grab your copy of the Thrive Cookbook bundle if you want to try these recipes that I've just mentioned.

Speaker 1:

These are perfect sauces. You can get both of them at poweronplantscom forward slash cookbook. And then, jared and I want you to join us inside our free community podcast insiders experience at poweronplantscom forward slash PIE. That's poweronplantscom forward slash pie. And in there, snap a picture of you enjoying your purse sauce at the restaurant and tell us which one you tried and how it went. We want to get to know you better and hear all about how these things are making such a difference in your life. Listen, we know you don't want to feel different. You want to enjoy your meals, but you don't want to ache in your joints like you used to. You don't want to be dealing with a high blood pressure and high cholesterol and autoimmune disease and digestive disorders and brain fog and low energy that you had whenever you were eating non-plant-based, and you shouldn't have to deal with those things. This is one very simple thing that you can do to make dining out a joy and to introduce others to whole food, plant-based living too, if you so desire.

Speaker 2:

And the power on plant sauces make that so much easier. Because what we know is that people they don't dislike plant-based, they just don't like nasty tasting food. But unfortunately, their experiences have taught them that plant-based can't be tasty, can't be enjoyable.

Speaker 1:

And that makes me want to cry.

Speaker 2:

It does. It's sad, but when you follow these recipes and those sauces are amazing and your friends and your family members try it, they are pleasantly surprised. So then you don't have to worry about sharing these with them.

Speaker 1:

You are going to fall in love with purse sauces. So the next time you go out to eat, do not leave home without your purse sauce. And then let us know how it goes. And remember, before you whip up your sauce, keep in mind the type of cuisine you're going to be eating and tailor your sauce to go best with that type of meal Friend. We cannot wait to hear all about your purse sauce adventures inside pie and tailor your sauce to go best with that type of meal Friend. We cannot wait to hear all about your purse sauce adventures inside pie and we look forward to getting to know you more there. Hope you have a fantastic week, sunshine, and we will see you soon, thank you.
