Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast. Are you tired of staring into the fridge wondering what to eat so you can just feel better? Do you want to avoid spending hours in the kitchen making complicated meals in the name of health? Would you love to leave fatigue behind and finally have the energy to do all the things you want to do? Hi, we're Jared and Anita Roussel, christ followers, healthcare professionals, parents of four and big fans of great tasting food.
Anita:We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods, but we still found ourselves struggling with what we thought were changes that come with age or bad genes, and we weren't finding answers the traditional route. So we dug into the research and created our secret nutritional weapon sustainable plant-based living. The truth is, you can eat more whole plant foods and it's not hard. You just need the way. That's realistic and delicious, so you never feel deprived. Anita:So grab your favorite plant-based cup of happy pop in those earbuds and let's get started. Hey there, sunshine, welcome back. We are so glad to have you joining us today and if you're new, this is the perfect time to join in, because you have got to hear this. Jared and I were just having this conversation about him talking with his patients, and he's noticed something that he hears over and over again from them that can be a hang-up for you in your life. We know because we've been there before. We've been in the exact same place, but he's had this revelation of how this is something that is holding many people back in your health and you don't even realize it. So I wanted him to share with you today what a patient said to him and how he then noticed the majority of his patients are saying this. He hears it day after day.
Jarrod:So Anita and I were just sitting here listening to scripture, talking about just health and how God wants us to live a vibrant life, and I started talking to her about a patient that I saw yesterday, guy 38 years old, and he mentions in the visit that we have that I'm just old, I'm just going to hurt. He had some aches and pains around his body, but he said I'm old and I just laughed at him. I said you're 38 years old, I'm 53. I don't have aches and pains all over my body.
Jarrod:Aging is not a disease and I'm seeing that more and more with people that are various different ages typically not at 20, but getting into the 30s where they just resign themselves to the fact that I'm just getting old. This is just how it is and I tell them again aging is not a disease. What's the problem is the things that we're doing that cause the aches and the pains and the disease, and we see so many diseases that are quote unquote chronic, but they're only chronic because we keep doing the things that make this problem happen. We don't stop it. We still eat the way that we eat and still engage in the lifestyle stuff that we do that keeps us sick, that keeps it going.
Anita:And when those sicknesses and symptoms come, then we come into alignment with it in our beliefs by saying oh well, it's just my genes, oh well, it's just my aging. And so we start to believe that aging is a disease. Well, this is just what happens. When you get old, you get high blood pressure. When you get old, you get high cholesterol. As you get older, have you ever had those thoughts go through your mind? Oh, I'm just getting older.
Jarrod:I mean, I just have high blood pressure.
Anita:Yeah, or I ache in the mornings when I get up. That's just normal. That's just what happens when you get older. I just don't have the energy I used to have, like when I was young, because I'm older.
Jarrod:And we were there. We know exactly what it's like. We experienced that when we my shoulders, my hips, nothing aches. When I get up, no me either.
Anita:I have no aches and pains, I don't have the low energy I used to have either. My energy was that and I just thought, okay, this just happens. You know, people in my family dealt with these things. They dealt with low energy, they dealt with autoimmune diseases. They went through these crazy diagnosis and you start believing you're going to have those things too. Just because you're their family there, you've got their genes, and so then the doctor tells you it's the genetic kind.
Anita:And all of a sudden you bring your thoughts and life into agreement with the fact that you have the genetic kind and you start thinking I have the genetic kind. And then you start saying I have the genetic kind. And then you start living like you have the genetic kind and looking up all the things that the genetic kind will bring to you and all of a sudden you find it thriving in your life and we wonder why. And it's like we don't stop doing those things that were being done by our family members that could have brought those things into being, those lifestyle things that need to be changed. But we also are bringing ourselves into agreement and alignment with our enemy, who comes to steal, kill and destroy from us by bringing our thoughts into alignment with the fact that, oh well, it's just because you're getting older. You're just getting older, you're just getting older, so you're sick. So we're bringing our thoughts into alignment with what the enemy wants for us, which is for us to be stolen from, killed and destroyed. And God says I came to bring you life, and not only bring you life here and now, and that's not just spiritual life. He also wants to bring our bodies back to life. He does not want us to live sick. Did Yeshua live sick? Did he ever walk up to somebody and say you know what? I'm going to leave you sick because you're going to learn something from this sickness. Okay, so just start wrapping your mind around and looking at what would Yeshua do? I mean, that was a big thing years ago. Wwjd, as a believer. We're speaking to you as believers, like get into the word and start getting your identity from him. As he is, so are you in this world. That's what the Bible says. We have to start wrapping our mind around the truth and stop aligning our thoughts and our words with the enemy. Read the word, get into it, have a growing and active relationship with him.
Anita:No-transcript and the old ways of doing things that your genetic members of your family used to do, like eating the things that we know cause disease, that we know are cancer causers, and not eating enough of the five power foods. Change the way you're doing things and you're going to see things in your body change. We see it happen time and again. This is why we continually see our clients reverse high blood pressure. It comes back to normal. Oh, but that just happens with age. Then why is it we see their blood pressure come back to normal on the regular and they come off of their medications. Why do we see the same thing with high cholesterol coming down when you stop eating the things that are causing it to be high, when you stop eating the things that are causing vessel damage?
Jarrod:And what we see is in societies that are plant based, as they get older, their blood pressure actually goes down. Now it reaches a balance point to where it kind of plateaus, but we don't see them get elevated and they're getting older. So aging is not a disease, it's a process. Of course, the longer you live, obviously you are getting older.
Anita:It's just what happens but it's not a disease. No, but we think about it as losing health. We think as you age, you're going to not feel as good, you're not going to have high energy like you used to, you're not going to be able to run and play like you used to and do all the things you want to do. You won't be able to go like you used to do, and these things are just not true. And so we live into that, into what we believe.
Jarrod:And into that, into what we believe, and that's how we align ourselves with it. Yeah, you don't necessarily on purpose do that, but you do if you buy into the mindset of, oh, this is just how it is, and then the danger there is that you then never do anything to overcome that, because you feel like there's nothing you can do. Right.
Anita:I mean, if aging just brings about these things, then what could you possibly do that would reverse it? Not just halt it, but actually reverse it?
Jarrod:Because obviously you can't stop aging. You can't. You're still going to be alive as you're living.
Anita:Right. So you're gaining years. That's what aging is. You're gaining years and hopefully, with that aging, you're gaining wisdom and getting set free from some of these things that have kept us stuck and miserable. We don't want you stuck and miserable anymore.
Anita:That's why we come and share these things. That's why we wrote the course, that's why the cookbook is there, so you can get all those recipes and figure out how do I make this stick in the way that's enjoyable and you can actually see. Hey, these dishes still taste great. It's not that I can't have them, I'm just going to have them in the way that was originally designed for my body to eat, and it still tastes amazing and I love it. And now, all of a sudden, all those aging things that were just quote normal because you had quote the genetic kind start going away. Are you kidding me? So clearly I had believed a lie and that lie is carefully crafted by your enemy. It's not your fault that you believe this stuff, except for the fact that you've allowed it in and not been filling your life with truth.
Jarrod:And now you can change the trajectory of your life by knowing the truth.
Anita:Because it is knowing the truth that sets us free and that can be found in God's word. And then we find science. Back it up, I mean over and over again.
Anita:So it's like Jer was saying. There are multiple studies where they've looked at the blue zones, the areas where people live the longest. They don't get high blood pressure as they age. They don't get heart disease, Like there are no cases of it, it's just like it's non-existent. Why is that? It's because they're living differently and they don't believe that as you age you get all these things. Start looking in the Word at what it says is normal for aging. Look at Psalm 91. Look at Psalm 92. Look at Psalm 103. Start reading those and believing what it says about you as you age. What should it look like as you age? Read just those three chapters. It's all over the word. It's all over it.
Jarrod:And something I want to highlight too, is that some of these disease processes, we used to think of them as being old people diseases, but now, as our children are starting to eat worse and worse foods because I think there was a period of time where adults ate certain things, like they might eat fast foods, but give their children better foods- but, now, as children are eating McDonald's from the age of two, we're seeing diabetes in children.
Jarrod:I even remember back I don't know 15 years ago, maybe a little bit longer there was a 12-year-old who had diabetes Type 2. Type 2 diabetes and his blood sugar was through the roof and he was 12. And he weighed 220 pounds. I mean, I'm 6'1", I'm 53, I weigh about 190. So this is a 12-year-old weighing 220 pounds with diabetes. So really I wanted to use this as an illustration of these are not aging problems, because we're seeing a lot of these things even in very young children. So that was not an age thing. No, 12-year-old children should not have aches and pains and autoimmune diseases and diabetes, type 2 diabetes.
Anita:And here's the wake-up call Neither should a 50-year-old or a 60-year-old or a 70-year-old or an 80-year-old or a 90-year-old. I mean, this is the truth of the matter. Because you take the people in those countries where they do not eat the standard American diet they eat majority whole plant foods. They're eating whole plant foods. But when you take those same people with the same genetics and you move them to an area and they did this in the studies where they now are eating the standard American diet and they take that on, all of a sudden they do have high blood pressure.
Jarrod:Within that generation. Yes, they do have high cholesterol.
Anita:They do have heart attacks and strokes.
Jarrod:And autoimmune diseases.
Anita:So wrap your mind around it and think about where have you put your thoughts and your words and your actions into alignment with what the enemy wants for you to make you think that aging is a disease. Aging is not a disease, and this is wonderful news.
Jarrod:Because the danger of this is that you will just stay exactly where you are, never realizing the truth of who you were meant to be in the life you were called to live.
Anita:And the fact that you never have to have this stuff, you can be free, you can be running, playing with your grandkids, full of life, full of energy, not having to struggle with all the diseases and all the things. Oh, we just get sick. It's just what happens. No, it's not. No, it's not. And if you say that and if you believe that it probably is going to become your reality and I'm not saying you're speaking things into existence, but what you think on and what you, it's what you believe, and what you believe is what you say and do it's just what happens. That's why Paul is always talking about guard your thoughts, think on these things. We is always talking about guard your thoughts, think on these things. We're thinking on the wrong things. We're aligning our thoughts with the world. We're giving our time and what we do over to the world. We're scrolling too much, we're watching too much TV, we're listening to too much news news right, and these things are twisted and they're not true. So we need to get our thoughts into alignment with his thoughts, our ways into alignment with his ways, and stop speaking death over ourselves and stop believing the things that aren't true and get into the word and say. What does the word say about aging? What does God say it should look like? How did Yeshua live? How did Jesus live? What was he doing? I mean, again, we had a whole thing around this years ago in the church. What would Jesus do Not? What would he do? What did he do? That's what it should have been W-D-J-D or W-D-Y-D. What did Yeshua do? Look at what he did, because he was the living example and stop identifying with the aging, sick person. You are alive in Christ and he has abundance for you and he's showing you and teaching you all these things about the foods that bring healing. He put natural healing into these foods. It's not Mother Nature that put it there. He put it there for you from the very beginning because these are the best foods to fuel your body. And Jared and I see time and again that when people get their thoughts right and understand, hey, there is something I can do about this. Hey, aging really is not a disease process. It's just adding years and hopefully again adding wisdom to my life, drawing closer to God. And then we see, as we do these things, we break free from the diseases that we thought were normal, because it just is what happens when you get old. Ask yourself am I thinking these things? Do I think that aging is a disease? Do I say to myself, well, I'm just getting old? This is just what happens when you get older. If you do, you've aligned yourself with a lie and it's time to be set free, because now you know aging is not a disease, it's just the adding of years.
Anita:And look again in those Psalms and then look all over the word and how Yeshua viewed aging. And then look through the word at how Yeshua viewed life and he wants you to have it abundantly. So grasp a hold of the truth and start saying the things to yourself about aging in your thoughts. Get them right in your thoughts. Read the scriptures Again Psalm 91, psalm 92, psalm 103,.
Anita:Read those scriptures and look at and highlight what they say about aging and Psalm 103, when he says bless the Lord, o my soul, and don't forget his benefits. That Hebrew word for forget do not forget his benefits doesn't mean don't just forget about the benefits. It means know the benefits, don't be ignorant of them and don't forget them. And a lot of times we're ignorant of and we don't understand what the benefits are. And we've got to start grasping the benefits, and the only way to do that is get into the word, change the way we think, change what we're speaking and then start changing what we're doing.
Anita:All the answers you need are in the book. They're in the book and they're in him, because he is everything and he is all you need. Sunshine, we are so excited you joined us for this episode.
