Speaker 1:

There's one last strategy for you to employ. So, like Anita said, you don't have time or maybe weren't able to prepare ahead of time and have that cabbage or that broccoli pre-chopped. There is still hope. There is still a way to salvage all of this. Anytime you have a cooked cruciferous, there is a simple ingredient you can sprinkle over top of it, and that is.

Speaker 2:

Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast. Are you tired of staring into the fridge wondering what to eat so you can just feel better? Do you want to avoid spending hours in the kitchen making complicated meals in the name of health? Would you love to leave fatigue behind and finally have the energy to do all the things you want to do? Hi, we're Jared and Anita Roussel, christ followers, health care professionals, parents of four and big fans of great tasting food.

Speaker 2:

We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods, but we still found ourselves struggling with what we thought were changes that come with age or bad genes, and we weren't finding answers the traditional route. So we dug into the research and created our secret nutritional weapon sustainable plant-based living. The truth is, you can eat more whole plant foods and it's not hard. You just need the way. That's realistic and delicious so you never feel deprived. If you're ready to enjoy your meals, no longer be held back by your health struggles and actively live your life, then you're in the right place. So grab your favorite plant-based cup of happy pop in those earbuds and let's get started. Hey, sunshine, this episode is for you if you're excited about living for God, but you find your energy lagging as you struggle to juggle your daily routine the children, the schedules, the meal prep, the traffic and building, or even growing your business. What if I told you the secret to thriving isn't another latte, but something easily accessible at your local grocery store or your farmer's market? Today we're diving into God's genius design for broccoli and its veggie cousins, like Brussels sprouts and kale and cabbage. Scientists confirm that cruciferous vegetables fight fatigue and boost your brain power, and even help you to prevent major disease, especially if you prep them the right way. So in this episode, we're going to show you exactly how to do just that, so you can further optimize your nutrition to feel great and actively enjoy each and every day you've been given. That's what it's all about, right? That's why Jared and I are so passionate about doing what we do.

Speaker 2:

So let's dive into. What are these cruciferous vegetables? What makes them such energy boosting gifts from God? What's in there? Well, truth be told, we're just scratching the surface of what's actually in there, because we've talked about this before.

Speaker 2:

If you've been around here long enough, you've heard us talk about it, and it's so true, and we need to never forget the fact that many I mean tens of thousands of nutrients in these beautiful whole plant foods have already been discovered by scientists that haven't yet been named because there's so many of them and they're still trying to wrap their minds around the fact of what they do know. And that's not even referring to the hundreds of thousands maybe more than that health boosting nutrients that are in whole plant foods that haven't even been seen or discovered yet. Like we're spending our time worrying about non little nutrients and advertising makes us psycho about those things, and really the fact is we need to not worry so much about that, but think about what do we know is in these foods. Learn more about the fact that these are the foods that are the most nutrient, rich, low calorie foods on the planet. So we don't have to count calories, we don't have to diet, we don't have to do all this crazy stuff, and these foods actually do prevent and even reverse the most common diseases of our time.

Speaker 2:

And this is one of the things, just one of the things that we know is inside these cruciferous veggies, which are again things like broccoli and Brussels sprouts and cabbages and kale, these wonderful cruciferous that help us to feel better by supporting detox and protecting our brain health and even helping to reduce cancer risk. It's a known fact about cruciferous that they do all these amazing things, and so I want you here to share a little bit about one of the things. Just one of the things wrap your mouth around that that's inside these amazing cruciferous vegetables that you need to be getting on the daily.

Speaker 1:

Isn't it amazing, as much as we know, there's so much that we don't know still yet, so much and that we're still discovering, and that's why the important thing is just eat your veggies. Yes, eat your fruits Eat your fruits, eat your berries, get them. And then, as we learn more, then you can say you know what Mama was right Eat your broccoli, eat your beans, it's all good for you.

Speaker 2:

Well, the miracle molecule inside of the cruciferous is One of the miracle molecules, well, one of them.

Speaker 1:

But the guest star for today's show is sulforaphane. Now, this is the active form of a molecule called glucoraphanin. Glucoraphanin is how it starts. There's an enzyme inside of the cruciferous called myrosinase. Myrosinase converts glucoraphanin into sulforaphane.

Speaker 2:

So in case you don't know or you weren't a science major enzymes break things down. That's what they do.

Speaker 1:

They help guide chemical reactions in a specific way and in this specific case, glucoraphanin gets converted to sulforaphane by the enzyme by the enzyme. Now the enzyme is not heat stable, meaning if it gets heated it gets cooked, steamed, whatever it breaks down. It gets heated, it gets cooked, steamed, whatever it breaks down. It can't do its job. So then glucoraphanin stays poor, sad little glucoraphanin. It doesn't get converted into sulforaphane. Now, glucoraphanin and sulforaphane are both heat stable. So if the glucoraphanin gets converted into sulforaphane and then that food gets cooked, it's stable. It will remain there. So when you eat the food it is available. Now this is important because we want you to be able to optimize the amount of sulforaphane that you get in your body.

Speaker 2:

Yes, absolutely. It's so very important. So we're going to give you some strategies to make this super simple, so that you're going to get the maximum amount of nutrients from these disease reversing foods. We want you to be flooded with these things when you eat them. You want to get the maximum amount out of it, right?

Speaker 1:

Especially if the strategies are simple and they are so simple.

Speaker 2:

They're so simple and I want to break this down first because God makes it so very simple. Number one we're not eating enough raw, right? The foods were made for us to walk up to the tree, pick it and eat it Eat it raw. So this is why, when we find that we cook things, the enzyme gets wiped out that converts the good stuff to the great stuff, and therefore it doesn't get converted because the enzyme is denatured, it's warped, it's twisted in a way that is no longer able to work. But when you eat them raw and you chew well, because you have to chew your food well if you do not chew plant foods, well, what happens? The cell wall remains intact. And if the cell wall remains intact, what happens? All the great nutrients are located on the inside of the cell, beyond the cell wall, and so you're not breaking them out, busting it open to get all the greatness that's on the inside. So it's very important that you chew your food.

Speaker 1:

You're not releasing them properly. Exactly, and that is strategy number one Chew well, and I would like to highlight the point, there are so many vegetables that, yes, you can eat them raw. You do not have to cook them, you do not have to steam them, you can but broccoli, cauliflower, kale and Brussels sprouts.

Speaker 2:

They can be eaten and enjoyed raw and really it's the simplest way. You talk about all the time how you don't have time for this, you don't have time to be healthy, you don't have time not this. You don't have time to be healthy, you don't have time. You don't have time not to. And it doesn't have to take long when you know how. And eating raw is one of the simplest ways.

Speaker 2:

We're not telling you you have to eat everything raw, but what we're telling you is you should be eating more raw Because right there, you're going to cut out the need for even some of the strategies we're going to be sharing with you. When you do want to eat cooked, you won't even have to use these because you're eating raw and you're chewing your food well, and right there you cut out the need for the extra strategies. It's crazy. So I'd say strategy number two is eating raw. You say number one is chewing. Well, two is eating more raw. I mean because right there you're set.

Speaker 2:

But if you're not eating as much raw and say, let's just say I really want some cooked broccoli, I really want some steamed broccoli, but I now know that when I cook it, it's going to break down the enzyme that's going to create or release sulforaphane right, and I know from research studies that that is a molecule that's going to help me feel better, that is going to heal my body, that's going to help prevent and even reverse things, and that's according to the research studies it's just going to make me feel better, right? So when you want to cook your food, is there something you can do to cause this conversion to still happen, even though the enzyme is?

Speaker 1:

going to be denatured.

Speaker 2:

Yes, Isn't that exciting? There is still something you can do.

Speaker 1:

Yes. So our third strategy is the chop and wait method. So if you cut the food but do it in advance, you give time for that chemical reaction to take place within the food. So, like with cabbage, if you're going to saute it, which we have done in the past, but you want to cut into thin strips, cut it, let it sit for upwards of 40 minutes, and then you're going to give time for that chemical process to take place, and I really think it's because these foods were created to be chewed and chewed well.

Speaker 2:

So we're basically chewing it with the knife or cutting through it, and that cutting, or that chewing which would normally be chewing right if you're eating it raw that cutting is going to activate the enzyme to convert the glucoraphanin to sulforaphane.

Speaker 1:

Isn't that amazing. And then, once the sulforaphane is created, then it's stable. You can cook it and it won't degrade. It won't go anywhere except for your mouth and into your belly.

Speaker 2:

So this strategy is simply cutting your cruciferous vegetables, chopping them 40 minutes before you cook them. That gives the enzyme time to be activated and create the sulforaphane that is going to help your body to heal and make you feel better, so that you can do all the things that you want to do. And this is just one simple strategy. Imagine adding another strategy, and another strategy, and another strategy. These are things that are so simple and you're so busy and I get it and you want to know what do I do now? This is going to make a big difference for me. Well, this is one thing that's going to make a huge difference Are you eating these things? That's question number one.

Speaker 2:

If you're not eating cruciferous on the daily, you need to be eating cruciferous every single day. You don't have to eat broccoli every day. You don't have to eat cauliflower every day. You don't have to eat Brussels sprouts every day or cabbage every day, but you need to be eating one of those every day. Look up cruciferous. There are more than what we're mentioning here. Pull in those veggies. Think about do I eat them every day? If not, this is one reason why I'm not feeling my best. It is going to make all the difference for you. That's step number one eat more cruciferous. Step number two eat more raw. Step number three chew them. Well, step number four chew them with a knife. That simply means cut them up 40 minutes before you want to eat them, to activate that enzyme that's going to create the sulforaphane that is going to heal your body. Isn't this exciting? There's so many things that you can do.

Speaker 1:

It is exciting because they're easy. They don't really change anything, they're not any extra work, but they optimize what is already there on your plate.

Speaker 2:

Now can I blow your mind even farther.

Speaker 1:

Oh, please do. I think I know where you're going.

Speaker 2:

What if you're a busy woman? We are, we are right. Maybe you've just started your business, maybe you're wanting to grow your business to the next level, but you can't because you're exhausted all the time and you think you don't have time to make healthy meals and do all these things for yourself. Well, the truth is you don't have time to make healthy meals and do all these things for yourself. Well, the truth is you don't have time not to, because you're your number one asset. You, you are your number one asset, so you need to take care of you. But I want to show you how simple this can be. So if you think I don't need it raw, even though that's the quickest and easiest way to eat it, and you think I really want some steamed broccoli, cauliflower, cruciferous, whatever it is, I don't have time to chop it up and wait 40 minutes. Okay, well, you could chop it the night before. You could have a child chop it or a spouse chop it for you, or you could simply buy it pre chopped from the store or from a local salad bar. There is always a way. Don't convince yourself, or let the enemy convince you. Hey, this is too hard for you, it's not going to work for you, because the truth is, this is going to be one of the biggest mindset shifts for some of you that are listening to this episode right now. I promise you it is because the enemy has been holding you back just by stinking thinking by the things and the thoughts that he's put in your mind like this is too hard for you and it's not going to work for you. You don't have time to get healthy because you've got all these things that you've learned about your business and setting your business up and raising a family the way you want to and homeschooling them, and all these different things that you're involved in that you want to get to the next level, that you want to prove yourself faithful into the father. The problem is you don't feel like it because you're constantly dealing with an ever-growing list of health struggles. I is the fact that it's not hard. There's always a way. There's always a way and we're here to show you how I mean. We love doing that. That's our thing. That's why we have Accelerator.

Speaker 2:

If you think I've got to have somebody, take me by the hand to the next step. What do I do? Step by step by step, so I'm not wasting my time at the doctor's office standing in pharmaceutical lines trying to figure out the next diagnosis and googling what's wrong with me. Wasting all these days. I don't feel good and I can't fully be productive. Right, when you value yourself and you understand and stop listening to the lies of the enemy but finally understand God has put everything in the right foods to heal my body. If someone could just come along and show me what are those foods, how do I easily combine those foods and not only make it simple and the fastest I've ever cooked, but that I actually love so much? I never feel deprived and I'm always, always loving the way that I eat.

Speaker 2:

That's what Accelerator is all about. It's our five-step signature system that we walk you through step by step by step. We even take you into the kitchen and show you in the kitchen videos of this is how we prepare this, and I do a grocery store walkthrough with you and show you okay, this is what we buy at the grocery store and here's how you read the labels. And then I walk you through our pantry. These are the things we buy. This is where we buy them. It just makes it such a no brainer and so easy for you and we're showing you things like okay, here's how you optimize the nutrients from this vegetable, like we're showing you today. It's not hard. You just need someone to show you how, who truly has found the joy in this way of living and has freed up their lives because they've gained all their energy back. They've gained their clear thinking back and now we don't spend all our time trying to figure out how do I get healthy. We're just walking in the things that we know and it's making all the difference.

Speaker 1:

And the value of the community aspect of accelerator cannot be expressed enough Because, like today, we've said, maybe you don't know how to do this, but it doesn't mean somebody else hasn't figured out a way to make these vegetables faster but still retaining all the nutrients in there. So there is a way, even though you may not know it. But what if you're in a community and you could quickly ask hey, does somebody know how I can maybe make the broccoli more healthy?

Speaker 2:

Yes, somebody is going to chime up, and if it's not somebody else, then us, and we are there every step of the way and I promise you that happens more when you take two seconds that you don't think you have to just pop a picture on there of what you did to share with somebody else. It is going to make this treasure trove of a place where you can go everything searchable inside our communities. It's incredible how we've created this for you so that it doesn't just disappear down the feed like inside Facebook, in Accelerator and Inside Alumni, which is our graduation program. For those who have gotten through Accelerator, it's the only way you can really work with us, either inside Accelerator or graduating from it and coming into our deeper dive inside Alumni, and that's where you get all our recipes hot off the presses and we go into the deeper things. Once you've established that solid foundation inside Accelerator and you're already thriving and feeling amazing and walking these things out step by step. But you come in there and you have this community.

Speaker 2:

Like Jared said, it's not just us sharing what we know. You're sharing with each other and everybody that's ever been in there. Everything they've ever posted is also searchable for you. So it's not just your contemporaries that are in there with you right now, it's everyone who's ever gone through our programs. All these things are saved. They don't disappear down the feed. They're all searchable for you.

Speaker 2:

It is amazing, and this is the kind of thing that is going to change everything for you. This is why, when we work with clients, we consistently see high blood pressure coming back to normal, people coming off their medications, working with their doctor and working with us. People coming off of their cholesterol medications because they no longer have high cholesterol. People no longer having IBS, crohn's disease, people no longer having rheumatoid arthritis, no longer having prediabetes or type 2 diabetes. Gone I'm talking gone like things you were told you to have for life. Gone, just with these simple changes.

Speaker 2:

So, yes, you're learning a lot of steps of how to get the most out of cruciferous today, but these are the types of things that you're going to learn on the regular inside of accelerator in a way that's not going to bog you down. It's not going to be a the regular inside of accelerator in a way that's not going to bog you down. It's not going to be a lot of fluff and stuff that doesn't matter. We don't believe in fluff. I don't have time for that. You don't have time for that. This is how do I do it. What do I do? Show me the way to make it the simplest for me, because maybe you prefer to go and buy your broccoli pre chopped at the store.

Speaker 2:

Someone else drives by this restaurant that consistently has pre-chopped cruciferous and it's much easier for them to just go in there and get a takeout container and take it home to make their stir fry. Right, and some people are like I just like to chop it 40 minutes before I'm going to prepare dinner, right after I come in the door, and I just let it sit while I'm doing my other stuff and then I'm going to go stir fry it or have my kids do it or my husband. There's so many ways. We're just scratching the surface here on this one thing.

Speaker 2:

Wrap your mind around how accelerator is going to change your life. Go right now and get yourself on the wait list, because the doors are opening soon. This is one decision you are not going to regret. So go to poweronplantscom forward, slash accelerator and join the wait list. Or if it's open and you're blessed that it's open, because it only opens a couple of times a year get in, because if you start today, think where you're going to be by the time the next door's open. You're going to be so far down the road you're going to think why has someone not told me this stuff before?

Speaker 1:

I know exactly where you're going to be. You're going to be an alumni.

Speaker 2:

It makes all the difference because you get your questions answered and where they're coaching you weekly live coaching calls. We're in there every day answering questions. It is a serious no brainer and it is going to change things for you. Do this for yourself. But we got to get back to the broccoli because I want to wrap this up for you. I mean, there's so many different ways. Can you just see the multitude of ways that you can do this and increase the nutritional content of just one of the things that's on the inside in the simplest, quickest and most effective way possible for you? For you, because this is about tailoring it for you. We give you the frameworks, we give you the reasoning so that you can say, boom, that's it. I know how. Now I'm going to take this one, because it works better for me to stop here versus going there, and it changes everything for you.

Speaker 1:

And there's one last strategy for you to employ. So, like Anita said, you don't have time or maybe weren't able to prepare ahead of time and have that cabbage or that broccoli pre-chopped, there is still hope. There is still a way to salvage all of this. Anytime you have a cooked cruciferous, there is a simple ingredient you can sprinkle over top of it, and that is mustard powder. A quarter teaspoon of mustard powder, because mustards are a cruciferous, so it has myrosinase in it. That's the enzyme, right? That's the enzyme.

Speaker 2:

So if you add it after the fact.

Speaker 1:

Now you would want to let the food cool. You're not going to put it in there while it's boiling, because that would then deactivate the myrosinase. But if you add it after the fact, it can add a little flavor, but it also adds the myrosinase, and then you salvage the sulforaphane and that can actually bump up the level of sulforaphane by four times. Four times that's huge.

Speaker 2:

So what's one thing you can do with this tip? You can make sure you always have mustard powder in your pantry, in your spice rack, organic mustard powder. Pick some up. It's super inexpensive for the health benefit that you're going to get from it when you sprinkle it on there. So what Jared's saying is you don't even have to worry about the cutting of it. If you like the flavor of mustard powder and you want to sprinkle some of that on your cooled cooked food, it has the enzyme in it because it is a cruciferous. It already naturally has the enzyme in it that will create the sulforaphane. So there you go, sprinkle on the mustard powder.

Speaker 1:

A perfect example might be if you had the idea for making sauteed cabbage but you got home late. You didn't have that 40 minutes to be able to chop it up ahead of time. So then you chop it, saute it, let it cool, then sprinkle the mustard powder on it. Problem solved.

Speaker 2:

Friend, we pray that you may enjoy good health. Fueling your body well honors God and it equips you to serve optimally At mealtime. You're not just eating breakfast, lunch or dinner. You're either missing out on the nutrients you need or you're fueling your body optimally so it empowers you to actively live your God given purpose. One delicious bite at a time, and we want you to walk away from this episode today fully encouraged.

Speaker 2:

Every single healing whole food, plant-based bite you take can be very simple to prepare, naturally healing and completely enjoyable too. If it wasn't, I can assure you that we would not be eating this way. So the next time you chop your broccoli 40 minutes before you cook it, or you opt to buy your cruciferous pre-chopped, or you simply eat your cruciferous raw, or you choose to toss some mustard powder onto your cooked cruciferous veggies, remember you're not just feeding your body, you're fueling your dreams, your family goals and the life God uniquely designed for you to enjoy. Now go eat with intention so you can actively serve with joy and live your dreams to the fullest. The world needs what God has placed inside you. Sunshine, you are loved, you are prayed for and we look forward to spending more time with you again very soon. Thank you.
