You're actually fully and actively engaged in doing the things you want to do. It's like Jared always says you're not just living a longer life, you're now living a full life, and that is something worth celebrating and has something worth living out in front of your family members, because it's not just going to change your life, it's going to change your children's life, your grandchildren's life. It's going to leave a lasting legacy for years, decades and centuries to come. Hey sister, welcome to the Power on Plants podcast. Are you tired of staring into the fridge wondering what to eat so you can just feel better? Do you want to avoid spending hours in the kitchen making complicated meals in the name of health? Would you love to leave fatigue behind and finally have the energy to do all the things you want to do? Hi, we're Jared and Anita Roussel.
Speaker 1:Christ followers, health care professionals, parents of four and big fans of great tasting food. We, too, tried exercising more, eating natural and clean foods, but we still found ourselves struggling with what we thought were changes that come with age or bad genes, and we weren't finding answers the traditional route. So we dug into the research and created our secret nutritional weapon sustainable plant-based living. The truth is, you can eat more whole plant foods, and it's not hard. You just need the way that's realistic and delicious so you never feel deprived. If you're ready to enjoy your meals, no longer be held back by your health struggles and actively live your life, then you're in the right place. So grab your favorite plant-based cup of happy pop in those earbuds and let's get started. Well, hey there, sunshine.
Speaker 1:This is going to be such a fun podcast episode because we're answering one of your specific questions about whole food, plant-based eating, and the question we have this week is what are your tips for people who feel like they need a fake meat substitute with every meal?
Speaker 1:Again, I want to repeat it what are your tips for people who feel like they need a fake meat substitute with every meal? Now, when I read this, I think of two different scenarios. The person who submitted this question is either wondering how to get someone they care about, like a friend, a family member, a spouse, to stop eating fake meat substitutes with every meal and to start finding healthy meat substitutes, because they know how unhealthy fake meat substitutes. That's scenario number one. Or scenario number two they're wondering for themselves how do I get myself off the fake meat substitutes that I'm eating with every meal, and so this week we're dealing with the first case scenario how do I help those I care about, including friends or family members, escape their daily fake meat substitutes that are keeping them stuck in their health struggles? The first thing you want to do in this situation is to realize that your suggestions might be met with some resistance, even when you have the best intentions for the one you care about.
Speaker 2:When we get excited about things, people don't always match us with that same level of enthusiasm or excitement. They may not have gone through a certain amount of research or a certain amount of learning to know exactly what you know, and maybe they don't have that same conviction. I see this all the time with patients I share with them about lifestyle, medicine and whole food, plant-based eating, and sometimes there's just kind of that deer in the headlights Look where am I going to get my protein? But wait, jared, are you taking my cheeseburgers away from me? To which I tell them always.
Speaker 1:I am not taking your cheeseburgers away from you. That has to be your decision. What we found is the best way to help those that you care about is by sharing what you're enjoying, living it out in front of them by example. So you actually do this by letting them see what are you eating, what is it like, how long is it taking you, and then you also let them see the results that you're getting, because it's the seeing and the hearing that often leads them to tasting and sampling. These are two of my favorite things, by the way tasting and sampling. Think about it. I mean, you go into Costco. What do they do?
Speaker 2:Oh, they give tons of free samples so that you can see it and taste it, but you also forgot a very important sense the smelling.
Speaker 1:Yes, as it's cooking.
Speaker 2:We've heard numerous people say oh, they said oh, that looks good, but that smells amazing.
Speaker 1:What is?
Speaker 2:that I want to try that too.
Speaker 1:I seriously talked to a friend today on the phone who is making our homemade granola and she said it smells so good in here. So you're right, smell. And yeah, her spouse was smelling that too. He's not completely whole food plant-based, but that's okay, because you know what he's smelling it and guess what's going to happen next? He's going to start coming down the stairs from his office and wanting to taste and see for himself. This is what Jared and I see happen time and time again. So we call this step taste and see, which is the first step to them becoming a real believer for themselves. So when relatives are near, the best thing you can do is offer them samples and, for friends who don't live with you, make them special tasty treats when they visit.
Speaker 1:I have a friend who just the other day was having a get-together with one of her friends and she said you know what? No-transcript without any oil. And she's going what is this? This is so good and we're dipping it in salsa. And she's like how'd you do this? I mean, I saw you stick in the microwave. What's in it? And she told her well, it's corn and lime and some waters like three ingredients. There's no oil. What? There's no oil in it. No, there's no oil in it. And guess what? Now my joints don't hurt and this doesn't hurt and I've reversed my auto arthritis and all these amazing things that you can share as the byproducts of what's happened to you since you started eating whole food plant-based, and that door opens up for you to share your results when they start tasting and seeing and smelling, as Jared says.
Speaker 2:Absolutely. But I think a key element here is what you just said a few moments ago offering You're not forcing them, you're not guilting them, you're just simply offering, especially after they see it. They smell it and they think wow, that actually does smell amazing.
Speaker 1:I want you to think of this in a really fun way, like the optimal, fun, grown-up show and tell. Remember show and tell when we were kids. I would just really think about what I wanted to take and share. So if you know you have a get-together coming coming up or you know your spouse is going to be home that night when you're cooking, think of something you can make that they would enjoy. Maybe that you've even tried previously that you know is delicious. It's going to make the house smell good Before long. They're going to ask.
Speaker 1:I think of a friend who was in the car with a full blown veggie sandwich that she had made with some of our power on plant sauces, layered with all these delicious vegetables, and her husband's sitting next to her and she's brought this sandwich on their outing and I think he had something else to eat. But he's smelling hers in the car. He's looking over it. She notices he's looking over at her. Next thing, you know, he's asking her for what To take a bite of her sandwich to try it. And then guess what he says hey, the next time we come out, can you make me one of those two?
Speaker 1:I mean, it really can be just that simple. It's more like when you're pushing it on them, they're not open. But when you just offer it, or when they see it and they see the results and the changes in you, they become hungry for it. So this is show and tell, not show and sell. So by that I mean you realize that they will only do and stick with what they actually see the value in and they actually want to do.
Speaker 1:So. If you're trying to sell them on it and they actually do buy, it most likely won't stick because they may just be making changes in their meat choices to please you and that's just not going to work for them long term. Now, if they're starting to step into vegan eating from the standard American diet and they're eating those fake meats as a result, celebrate this. Even if they're currently eating the vegan meat subs that are not the healthiest choices, celebrate it as a win, because this can be a good transition food. They are actually taking the step to start to transition by eating these things when before they were eating animal products. So I want you to see this as a benefit and a step in the right direction, knowing that, as you walk things out before them, it's probably not going to be their end point.
Speaker 2:Because what we see time and time again, how people are just so inundated with messages of you need animal based foods for protein that if they're willing to do this, then they're obviously making that commitment to say I'm going to stop eating animal-based foods altogether. But, getting the fake meat substitutes. They still want to enjoy those flavors, those textures, that experience, and they feel like this may be the only way that they can do it, because they don't yet know a better way.
Speaker 1:So you're actually seeing them live out their desire to be healthier. They just may not know. The step is what you're saying, and I think that's brilliant.
Speaker 2:Or this is a baby step and they're just not all the way there yet because they don't know what that all the way there yet is yet.
Speaker 1:Right, but you're working with us and you're here on the podcast and you have your power on plants cookbooks that are showing you the way to make this quick and easy and delicious, and your mind's blown and you didn't know before it could be this simple and you're finding your new favorites and now they're seeing you do it and they're smelling and they're tasting and before long they go. I can do this too. I mean, if you can do that, I can do that. If you can make a five minute soup or a five minute alfredo sauce or five minute dressing, well, I can do that too. And this tastes amazing what in the world? And that's how they'll get real, lasting change. Also, I want to add take some time to pray for them that they're being led by God to be wise and make healthy choices for their lives.
Speaker 2:Being good stewards of their bodies.
Speaker 1:Absolutely.
Speaker 2:Because we don't think of it in those terms. We think stewardship as being home, resources, finances, things of that nature, but our bodies, this is the temple that we live in, and we must also be good stewards of that, and that includes the fuel that we give our bodies, because we don't want to just live, we want to live a long, vibrant, full life led by Holy Spirit.
Speaker 1:Well, our body is actually a tool that we live through. The real us lives inside and we live through. So we have to take care of the tool, which really is one of the number one assets God's given us. If we don't take care of that tool, then how are we going to fully live our calling and our purpose? And then, as a general rule, ask for permission before you share with them.
Speaker 1:You could say things like would you like to hear about the incredible new meat substitute I found? Instead of hey, you need to quit eating that fake meat. It's really bad for you. See which one would you rather somebody approach you with? Increase their curiosity with statements like I tried the best plant-based taco meat the other day. I think you'd really like it.
Speaker 1:And, of course, in the sharing, always be honest. When you know the power on plants way to eat whole food plant-based, I promise you you will not feel the need to elevate how great your whole food plant-based journey is. You're just going to love it. And if you're thinking, anita, you know I'm new to this. This all sounds great, but where do I even start? Go right now and get yourself the cookbook bundles with all the bonuses that we're offering. It really is a no-brainer and it's going to help you get started on this journey. And maybe you've been doing it for a while and you think I've been doing this for a while, but it just doesn't taste good. I haven't found a lot of new favorites. It's really hard. These things are time consuming, it's costly. That's not the case with the recipes I share with you. Please just try them. I promise you it is going to change things for you in incredible ways. You can get those at powerandplantscom forward slash cookbook. That's powerandplantscom forward slash cookbook.
Speaker 1:Over and over again, jared and I have seen this work so many times in the way we've described to you. Friends and family members see a loved one start working with us by listening to the podcast and then they buy the cookbook and then they get into Accelerator, our course and group coaching program, and they see them, step by step by step, making changes, getting reversal of their type 2 diabetes, their high cholesterol, their high blood pressure, their autoimmune disease like rheumatoid arthritis and IBS, and aching and low energy and extra pounds and keeping it off and like all these things that keep happening, things that people are told on a regular basis they cannot reverse. We see them reverse it time and again as we work with them on this journey. And it's just mind blowing and it's exciting and it's why we show up for you week after week with all of our community service content, because you got to even understand that it's possible. Like the podcast is our community service content. You have, at this point, over 350 episodes of content that you can start learning from and getting results.
Speaker 1:We don't want you to wait till you join us in accelerator to start getting results. In accelerator. We're going to walk you, step by step, through the five part framework that is foundational for you to start getting amazing changes in the quickest way possible. That's why we call it accelerator. It's no fluff. You're going to come in there. We release it, we drip it out for you so that there's no overwhelm. You get what you need each week by week, so that you have time to implement it. Ask your questions, get them answered on the weekly coaching calls. We're in there every day answering any questions that you have and helping you on the next steps of the journey.
Speaker 1:So, as your friends and family members see you walk out this process, this step and that step and this step, and they start seeing you healing and they start seeing you having more energy and being more involved in the activities you want to be, in starting your business, growing your business to the next level when you couldn't before, because you were so tired, you weren't productive like you wanted to be, the ideas wouldn't flow because you had brain fog. You were spending so much time in the doctor's office and trying to figure out, by Googling, what your actual diagnosis was, when the doctors couldn't figure it out. I mean, it's all this crazy stuff that you're going through and spending your time on that. All those time wasters go away and now you're actually living the life you're called to live. You're actually fully and actively engaged in doing the things you want to do. It's like Jared always says you're not just living a longer life, you're now living a full life, and that is something worth celebrating and it's something worth living out in front of your family members, because it's not just going to change your life, it's going to change your children's life, your grandchildren's life. It's going to leave a lasting legacy for years, decades and centuries to come.
Speaker 1:And finally, don't expect them to be exactly where you are if they do start picking up and doing the things you do. If they start listening to the podcast, it might be just a little bit before they get their first cookbook and it might be just a little bit longer before they decide hey, I need to come into the free group podcast insiders experience which, by the way, if you haven't joined us there, you need to be there. That's your next step, because things are about to get going in there like crazy. It's going to be amazing. We have some great things coming. So, right now, get inside at poweronplantscom, forward slash p-i-e, poweronplantscom, forward slash pie.
Speaker 1:And then the next step is they'll get the cookbooks. And then the next step is they 'll be saying to you hey, what's that course that you went through? That changed your whole life, that you had the coaches guide you step by step through what you needed to do in just a few weeks, and it changed your life forever. And you're going to them. So don't expect them to be where you are right now, because odds are that's not how it happened for you. Is it Right? Encourage them where they are, celebrate each step, that they take, one replacement at a time, and before long, they're naturally going to be eating less and less of the health-sabotaging foods, including the pre-packaged meats that are not healthy for them because they have a full long ingredients list of things you can't pronounce and aren't even food.
Speaker 1:This was such a great question. If you have a question that you want us to answer, email that to us at podcast at poweronplantscom. That's podcast at poweronplantscom because you may hear your question highlighted on one of our podcast episodes. So, to recap, if you have a friend or a family member that you're wondering, what tips do you give the people in your life who feel like they need fake meat substitutes with every single meal? First, you're going to realize that your suggestions might be met with some resistance, even when you have the best of intentions for the one you care about. Next, you'll remember the best way to share is through show and tell, not show and sell. The next thing you want to emphasize is helping them have opportunities to taste and see and then celebrate their wins.
Speaker 2:Even if they're stepping into this vegan whole food, plant-based way of eating from the standard American diet, at least they're making a commitment that they're leaving behind that way of eating that they used to love, what they've been taught that they couldn't do without. That was necessary. So really they're making a monumental step in the right direction to improve their health. So celebrate that, encourage them.
Speaker 1:Also remember to pray for them to be led by God to be wise and healthy in the choices they make and, as a general rule, ask for their permission before you share with them, perhaps even leading with a question like would you like to hear about this incredible new meat substitute I found? Or a curiosity-driven statement like I tried the best taco meat the other day, always remembering to be honest in what you share and remember one replacement at a time and before long, they'll naturally be eating less of the health-sabotaging foods and more of the ones that bring optimal health, lasting change and a long, full life. Friend, we have loved having you hang out with us again today on Power on Plants. Remember you're loved, you're prayed for and we'll see you again very soon. Thank you.
