You finished dinner, but your mind is already on the next meal. Most have lived with that so long they think it's just who they are. It's not.

After nearly five decades in healthcare, Jarrod and Anita know exactly why it's happening and how to fix it for good.

In this episode they unpack what food noise actually is, why certain foods are physically keeping you trapped in it, and some foods you love keep hitting the same receptors in your brain as morphine. Yes, really. And no, it is not your fault.

They also reveal how whole plant foods silence food noise completely and naturally, including your God-given GLP-1 response, the same result people are paying hundreds of dollars a month to inject. Only the amazing foods that produce GLP-1 naturally taste amazing, require no injections, and don't come with the nasty side effects.

What would your days look like if food was simply no longer hijacking your thoughts or your physical condition? What if your energy skyrocketed and you could 10x your productivity while having meals you genuinely love?

That is lasting food freedom. And this episode shows you exactly how to get there.

SPEAKER_00:

I want you to think about what Jared just said. You get the same effects, positive effects, without the side effects. So what you're saying is we get the benefits. So the side effects end up being benefits when you eat whole plant foods.

SPEAKER_01:

And when people are using the GLP1 medications, we hear time and again, like I can tell it's working, my appetite is suppressed, and the food noise is gone. And like Anita said earlier, we didn't really hear this until the last couple years that this was even kind of quote unquote a thing, but we started looking back and I told Anita, I said, you know what? Welcome to the Power on Plants podcast, home of the purpose-driven men and women who refuse to let their body become the bottleneck to their God-given calling.

SPEAKER_01:

And I'm Jared Roussel, a physician assistant certified in lifestyle medicine.

SPEAKER_00:

So inflammation finally fades away, your energy rises, and you can finally show up at full capacity without going on any miserable diets or having to willpower through. And if you're ready for the strategic five-step system that will transform your body into the energized powerhouse that fully backs your dreams instead of sabotaging them, we're here to walk you through it right inside accelerator. You can learn more at poweronplants.com forward slash accelerator. And today we are talking about something that we keep hearing over and over again. And that is the term food noise. And for you know, for years I never heard this term mentioned, and now it's coming up all the time.

SPEAKER_01:

It seems like in the last year or two is whenever it really started becoming more prevalent. I mean, I'm sure that kind of stuff happened, but I never really heard the term, the concept, quote unquote, food noise until just recently.

SPEAKER_00:

But the funny thing is, we were experiencing this phenomenon for years and never knew it had a name. Have you ever heard us share the story of how we went to Burger King on the regular? I'm sure some other places too, but we liked Whoppers. What can I say? So we would go there and order a biggie sized Whopper meal, and then what would we do, Jared?

SPEAKER_01:

We would consume them in their entirety and still be hungry.

SPEAKER_00:

Still be hungry and then go back for another one. I remember sitting there in the little booth talking to you about, okay, this is crazy, but I'm still hungry. Like I want another one. I said that. I want another one. And we would find ourselves back in line ordering again.

SPEAKER_01:

For a second time, but you know why we didn't go for third? Because we didn't have any room in our stomach. Our stomachs were packed, but yet we still felt hungry. Our bodies were crying out, feed me. Think about how twisted.

SPEAKER_00:

I mean, we've eaten all this food. We spent all this money. And don't even get me started how these foods are not any more expensive. Whole plant foods are not any more expensive than the stuff we were eating before, especially when you had to go back for a second round of a biggie meal, right? Start adding that up.

SPEAKER_01:

And start adding it up. Well, in our case, times two. And if there are more in your family, times three or four, it adds up very quickly. And really, at the end of the day, there is no cost savings. I mean, really, at the end of the day, it's a cost suck.

SPEAKER_00:

Well, especially when you think about your health.

SPEAKER_01:

Yes, it sucks money out of your wallet today, but down the line, whenever you're having health issues, medications, doctors' visits, procedures, that's gonna add up quickly. And please don't tell me I've got really good insurance. When you have your chest cracked open and you've just paid a$10,000 deductible, but that surgery was$100,000. That$10,000 deductible is not gonna feel like such a savings when you're having to squeeze this really hard pillow to keep you from feeling like your chest is gonna explode whenever you cough after surgery. Then it's not gonna feel like so much of a savings.

SPEAKER_00:

And sadly, you're just scratching the surface there with all the cost as far as health goes, our time we're able to live, the quality of time, the experiences. Yeah, we can't even go there because that's not what this episode is about. But do you ever think about these things? March them out over time. This is what we love seeing you do because this is when everything can change for you. But we literally this week, I had a client, Jared had a patient, someone else I was talking to on the phone, mentioning food noise, how it was a struggle for them. And it's very common. So we're talking about things like eating a meal and dreaming of the next one the whole time you're eating the one you're currently enjoying.

SPEAKER_01:

Oh, we did that constantly. Constantly for the longest time.

SPEAKER_00:

Thinking about different foods, different snacks you wanted. And for me, it was cheese. And we're gonna talk about why it was specifically cheese and why I'm probably not the only one. There is a physiologic reason for that. You do not have a problem. What if it wasn't the emotional issues that you've been told you have from your childhood that are coming back in the food struggles? What if it's not just those types of things? Because what we know, what the research shows, what our experience is on our own journey and with our clients, helping them break these addictions, get rid of the food noise. Our first client that coined this actually called it food freedom. Food freedom. She broke free of the food noise, so now she had food freedom. There's nothing like it. You're no longer thinking about the next meal. You know what's so funny is sometimes we'll reach meal time now. And the new problem we have is we haven't thought about it ahead of time because our body's not crying out for the nutrients that's missing. That is a great problem to have. I'd much rather have that problem all day long because you're gonna have your new favorites list. And you know, when that happens, you don't have to wonder what you're gonna eat when it's last minute and you're thinking, oh, wow, it's lunchtime and I haven't even thought about food. What a great problem to have. What would that make possible for you if you weren't spending all day thinking about your meals? And when meal time came up and you thought, oh man, I haven't thought about it, then you have that list to pull up and you can go right to the list, save yourself time and go boom, have something on the table in 15 minutes. 30 max. I never we never spend longer than 30 minutes on a meal, unless it's something like lasagna that might take 35 maybe to put together.

SPEAKER_01:

Nothing's special that we don't mind spending the extra time when we have it, but when we need meals quickly, imagine this. This is our present reality. You come home from spending an afternoon at the beach, you get in, it's seven o'clock, eight o'clock, and you think, what should we have for dinner? Yeah, I guess I'm getting a little hungry. We haven't eaten in a while. Didn't even think about it because we were able to be out and about, enjoy what we were doing, enjoy the sunshine, the sand if we were on the beach specifically. There are a number of places along the beach that we enjoy going, hanging out, and visiting. We were able to go and do so without this distraction of I'm hungry. What are we gonna eat? When's our next meal? Having to think about and planning it. We got home and we thought, you know what? I'm a little bit hungry. I guess we probably should eat something. What do y'all want to eat? Y'all want to make something real quick or maybe just have a smoothie? Some nights we'll just have a smoothie and we're satisfied with that.

SPEAKER_00:

And it tastes delicious.

SPEAKER_01:

That being your everyday reality.

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, and the smoothie tastes delicious. I know that sounds weird to you now, but you are going to get to the place where your body wants the things that taste great and are incredible for you, but they're not constantly on your mind because you're no longer addicted. You are free. What would that look like for you? What would that allow you to do in your life? Start picturing it now because the truth is that can be a reality. What if type 2 diabetes was gone, your blood pressure was back to normal, your cholesterol was down to normal, you didn't need any meds to keep them that way? What if all the extra pounds were gone without counting calories, keeping up with portions, doing any of the crazy dieting things, and your autoimmune diseases disappeared? We see these things happen on the regular. This can be your story because whole plant foods are the foods that naturally quiet the food noise and give you your energy back and give you your life back. Now, why is it that these are the foods that do this? First of all, let me just start with one example. Being the previous dairy queen that I was, do you know what it's like to crave cheese or to think about cheese or to want to eat it every day? Or perhaps you like to sit down with a block of cheese and a knife and some chips and just go to town. And before you know it, half the block or more is gone.

SPEAKER_01:

Along with half a bag of chips. Now we're gonna add the bag of chips too. We've done that.

SPEAKER_00:

The salt, the oil, all those things that are causing your joints to ache, and you're constantly tired, and you think you're just getting old and it's your bad genes. Well, it's not aging is not a disease. I stole that from Jared. That's one of his sayings. But it's so true and it's so pertinent to our conversation that we're having.

SPEAKER_01:

Yeah, I want to take you to that moment. You're sitting there, you think, I want a snack. Now, mind you, this is usually for us in the past was after we had dinner and we wanted a snack, and you think, oh, I would love some cheese and some tortilla chips because it's super easy. You just pull off a little slice of cheese, put it on that chip. Now, think about that moment before that first bite, how you're just craving it. I mean, it's just almost, I won't say you've mentally hurt, but you've got this craving so badly, you've got to have it. Then you take that first bite and you think, oh, that's it. Oh, the wonderful cheese.

SPEAKER_00:

Or when you bite into pizza. Same type thing as the cheese.

SPEAKER_01:

What is driving that? What is in that moment when you have that craving and you can't shake it, you can't deny it, what's happening?

SPEAKER_00:

And you've been led to believe you just have a willpower problem, you just have a weight problem, you just have emotional problems, and that's why you eat. But let me tell you, some of these foods, not just the ones that are highly processed, some of the whole foods, we were eating clean foods. We were eating hormone-free, cage-free, free range when we were our sickest. Do you know why? Because these foods keep bringing us back and they do not contain optimal nutrition. So, in the form of dairy, what is going on there? There's a protein in dairy. It's a beautiful protein that God put there, okay? For a calf to bring the calf back to the cow to become a full grown cow, okay. It brings it back. We can march that out, right? What does that do to our body? So if it does this to a cow, what do you think it does to a human? We can march that out, right? If it causes a calf to grow rapidly, to continue drawing it back to eat more dairy, what do you think it does to us? It does the same thing to humans. The casein in cheese, that protein, is converted into caseomorphins in our body. So you get these in things like milk, also. You would get it in dairy ice cream, yogurt, and sour cream. These all hit the same opioid receptors in the human brain that heroin, morphine, and other narcotics attach to, triggering a dopamine release, creating feelings in your body of reward and pleasure.

SPEAKER_01:

And that's why I mentioned how do you feel right before that first bite, that just innate desire, I must have this. It's that. It's that casomorphin drive that hits the dopamine. And then when that dopamine level drops and you get that craving, I like my dopamine, I want it to go up. You eat that cheese. Now, of course, you're not thinking this, but that's the process that's going on. And don't think the food industries don't know about this.

SPEAKER_00:

But the bad thing is we don't know about it. I mean, I was eating cheese. I had no idea. I just thought, maybe I have a food problem. Maybe I have a cheese. I just have, I just love cheese. That's how I would say it. I just love cheese. And you know, you will see this walked out in yourself and other people's lives. Start talking to them about cheese. It's not just dairy in general, something specific about cheese. And I'm going to tell you why. Because when cheese is made, this protein is multiplied sevenfold. This explains why when you're talking to someone who is addicted to cheese, or you're describing it yourself and you're addicted, their eyes get big and they say something like, I love cheese, I love cheddar, mozzarella is my favorite, whatever it is for them. It's a cheese that makes them go cuckoo for cocoa peps. I mean, they're all about this cheese because we're addicted, physically addicted. And meanwhile, we're sitting there thinking we have some sort of problem within us that we need to take care of. And if you can just find the foods, and if you can just learn how to harness the foods that help you get off of these things naturally, your life is going to change in amazing ways.

SPEAKER_01:

And compound that with we're told cheese is good for you. It's a great source of calcium. So the messaging seems to fall in line with the desire, like, oh, well, I love cheese and I need calcium, and this is a great source of calcium. I'm doing something wonderful for my body.

SPEAKER_00:

Recently I went to Jared and I was talking to him. I said, you know, food noise has come up again. I was just talking to someone and they were sharing with me their struggle with it. And I told him how I'd shared about casein. And he said, Oh, but did you tell them this? And I want you to share with them what you told me because this is another big reason why whole plant foods will help you to silence the food noise for good.

SPEAKER_01:

We know that the foods that are most effective at helping to stimulate the natural release of the hormone GLP1 are plant foods. Now, if you've been anywhere near the internet, radio, TV, whatever, GLP1 medications are all the rage right now. Wagovy, Zetbound, Victosa, these medications are synthetic analogs, meaning they're synthetic versions of GLP1. So if you can eat the foods that naturally release that, then guess what happens? You get the same effects without the side effects.

SPEAKER_00:

I want you to think about what Jared just said. You get the same effects, positive effects without the side effects. So what you're saying is we get the benefits. So the side effects end up being benefits when you eat whole plant foods.

SPEAKER_01:

And when people are using the GLP1 medications, we hear time and again, like I can tell it's working, my appetite is suppressed, and the food noise is gone. And like Anita said earlier, we didn't really hear this until the last couple years that this was even kind of quote unquote a thing. But we started looking back and I told Anita, I said, you know what? Back before we even really heard of plant-based, we used to think about dinner right as we were finishing lunch. Yes. Hadn't even started digesting, and then started recounting and thinking, uh, we don't do that anymore, like when we come home from the beach, like I just told you a moment ago. And is food's not even a consideration. It's really more of a second thought, and our stomach's grumbling a little bit, and it's bedtime, and we think maybe we need a little something. I put two and two together, thought that's the food noise they were talking about. We got rid of the food noise, but naturally, before we even knew what the label was for it.

SPEAKER_00:

And go back and listen to some of our last podcast episodes before this one, because we do talk about GLP1 in some of those. As a matter of fact, get inside Peak Performance Network at poweronplants.com forward slash PPN. That's poweronplants.com forward slash PPN for Peak Performance Network, because in there we give you this amazing feature where when you're accessing it by the web from your phone or your computer, you can actually enter the term GLP or GLP one. Press enter on the search function. It will search every one of our 380 plus podcast episodes for the term GLP. It will pull up not only titles where we've used it, but inside every single episode wherever we have mentioned that thing. And you can just go through and listen to everything we've taught about GLP one because there is so much more we need to unpack here for you. Like the side effects of the synthetic one. When you're taking the shots, it you need to understand the side effects. Never take it.

SPEAKER_01:

Potential risk.

SPEAKER_00:

Yeah. Never take it until you understand side effects and potential risk. They do not work the same as the natural that your body's released. They don't even stay in your body the same amount of time. They're there much longer. Your body was never meant to have GLP1 circulating for that length of time. And so there are ramifications to that. So do get inside performance network so you can search this because it's very important for you to understand it. But when it comes to quieting the food noise, with these foods hitting receptors and releasing GLP1, what happens? The food noise is quietened without the side effects of things like your food no longer goes through your digestive tract. These are things you don't want to have to deal with. The possibility of increasing your risk of shingles because your immunity has gone down, right? You don't want to have to go through that. No one wants to have to go through these things when you can eat the natural foods that will do the same thing but better.

SPEAKER_01:

I actually have a patient that came to me where somebody else had given her one of these medications. She has since stopped it, but she still has chronic constipation. She is now having to take a medication to help control this side effect that still has persisted, even though she is no longer on it. So the risks are real, they're out there, you just need to be aware. But if you can achieve the same thing naturally with the world's most delicious food, most nutrient-dense foods that do more than just help you lose weight, they help you fight off infections, they help you fight off inflammation, they give you energy through the roof. I mean, why wouldn't you want to do that? Such a good question.

SPEAKER_00:

Why would you not want to? Because you think all you're going to be able to eat is rabbit food. That's also not true. When you're in PPN, just search rabbit food for the podcast search. You're going to find out so many ways we've taught to you about how these are not just salads. We're going to tell you how to do this in the way that's simple, enjoyable, and delicious, right? You need the five-step system. You want the five-step system that's going to take you from where you are to where you're going to be. And that is getting your mindset right. And we think, oh, mindset, that's so woo-woo. No, it's not. Because you want to be able to recognize the lies that have been sabotaging you, that keep holding you back from achieving all the things you want to achieve, but not just that. Then what do you replace those lies with? You must learn the truth to get that in there so that you don't leave an empty space.

SPEAKER_01:

And if our thoughts govern our actions, wrong thoughts will lead to wrong actions, wrong choices. It's extremely important.

SPEAKER_00:

And then environment. What's surrounding you? The people, places, and things are going to make all the difference. And then how to make these foods absolutely delicious, rapid, and super simple so that you know what to do when you go to someone's house to eat, when you have people over, when you go to a party, when you're traveling, when you're the only one in your house who eats whole food plant-based. These are the things we go over inside accelerator. Again, you can check that out at poweronplants.com forward slash accelerator. But today, what we want you to realize is that the food noise, it's not your fault. You know, you've been convinced, oh, it's something I've done. I have a willpower problem. Meanwhile, you're suffering silently, pushing through. Everybody thinks you're okay because it looks all okay on the outside. Meanwhile, you're Googling your symptoms, you're going to doctor's appointments, you're trying to figure out what's going on, and it is exhausting. We don't want you in that situation anymore. So, today, what is one thing that you can take away from this episode? Just one thing that you can do. Get inside Peak Performance Network and find one inspiring dish to try. Because taste and see can make all the difference for you. It's just kind of like when you go to Costco or you go to Sam's and you're walking around the store and you smell something. It smells really good. What is that?

SPEAKER_01:

You walk up to the end of the aisle. Would you like to try a sample?

SPEAKER_00:

Yes, I would.

SPEAKER_01:

Why, yes. Yes, I would. Thank you so very much.

SPEAKER_00:

And next thing you know, that thing's in your cart and your bills, 20 bucks more than you thought it was.

SPEAKER_01:

Three bags of it.

SPEAKER_00:

Okay, 60 bucks more than you thought it was gonna be. And that's the reality of eating these foods in the way that is simple, enjoyable, and delicious. When it works with your busy schedule, you're going to absolutely love it by getting that taste and see experience. So find your one new favorite. If you like chili, find a new chili recipe that you're gonna absolutely love. That's whole food plant based. And if the first one you try isn't great, try another. Don't give up and say, I just like my old chili. You're going to find your new favorite, I promise you. And then what are you gonna do? You're going to get it onto your favorites list. This list is going to become gold for you.

SPEAKER_01:

Back in the day, if you ate a chicken breast that was overcooked and dry and a little nasty, did you give up on chicken breast? No, I think not. You found a different recipe or you found a different chef to cook it for you. Same with plant-based foods. You got to put the flavor in it. It's got to be hearty and stick to your ribs, and it has to be delicious. Don't give up. If you find a bad recipe, it's just that a bad recipe. It doesn't represent all of Whole Food Plant-based.

SPEAKER_00:

No, because there are some seriously bad recipes out there, and there are some seriously great ones that are going to take you minutes to get on the table. Those are the ones you're looking for. And when you find them, you've struck gold.

SPEAKER_01:

So write it down on your new favorites list. I mean, if you found real gold and nobody else knew where it was, you would make a map, wouldn't you? I mean, you'd make some kind of documentation so you could find it again. Well, this is your new gold. That is make your favorites list.

SPEAKER_00:

You're dropping the sauce right now. That is amazing because you want to be able to dig that pot of gold back up. And you think you won't forget where it is, you will.

SPEAKER_01:

You'll forget.

SPEAKER_00:

And you don't want to have to rip up your whole yard looking for it. So put it somewhere where you can easily find it. Friend, we have loved having you with us again today. We are so very passionate about helping you learn how to harness the power of whole plant food so you can shift your body from being your number one hindrance in your business and your life to being your number one productive asset. Have a great week, and we'll look forward to seeing you very soon.
